20 Things To Do Over Spring Break If You're Not Traveling

You don't need to go anywhere to have a great break.

20 Things To Do Over Spring Break If You're Not Traveling

As much as I would love to go someplace warmer than Ohio for spring break, my bank account would not love it. There are so many other things you can do without getting on a plane and flying to somewhere amazing.

1. Sleep (in your own bed, instead of the small dorm room beds).

2. Workout. Then when you get back to school, you will be in the habit of working out and you'll keep up with it (hopefully).

3. Start a diet that you've been talking about starting forever now but "never had time to start."

4. Go visit friends at other colleges. It's the perfect opportunity to visit your BFF's who have different spring breaks than you!

5. Treat yourself: get your nails done, hair done or full out spa day. You deserve it because you've worked your butt off at school so far this semester.

6. Make the food that you always see on Facebook videos but never actually made.

7. Get your boating license (because why not?). Apparently it only takes a couple of hours online so then you can tell people you have a boating license. Cool, right?

8. Secure a summer job. If you are like me, you are as broke as anything, so knowing you'll have some sort of income for the summer is great.

9. Try a new restaurant or coffee shop.

10. Relax and enjoy your mental break from school.

11. Read a book that isn't for a class.

12. Watch an entire series on Netflix (yes, it's possible).

13. Organize your life. Then when you get back to school you'll feel completely on top of things and ready to take on the rest of the semester!

14. Go shopping so you can be stylin' when you get back to school.

15. Hang out with your family.

16. Hang out with your dog because you wish you could take them to school with you.

17. Go on adventures with your friends (weather-permitting). Hikes, exploring cool towns, anything.

18. Be crafty and paint some cute canvases.

19. Lay around and do nothing because it's break.

20. Have a movie marathon. So many possibilities but personally I'd go with Harry Potter.

21. Road trip. Take some day trips to cool places not too far from home. Plus, it'll be the perfect opportunity to take some awesome pictures for Instagram over break.

Whether your break is super productive or really chill, it's better than being in the library for hours on end doing schoolwork. Enjoy yourself and the free time, wherever it is, and however it's spent.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
