20 Things To Do...

Before You Turn 21

20 Things To Do...

The age of 20 is a unique year. You can still do everything you've been able to since you were 18; you're not quite 21.

Here are 20 things to do before you end your 20th year of life:

1. Meet one of your inspirations.

Whether this be a musician, a poet, or author, meeting your inspirations can give you motivation to continue down your path.

2. Be in a long-term relationship.

Sometimes the best way to learn who you truly are is to be with someone you love. The trust built will open doors for you to be yourself.

3. Be single.

But sometimes, you need a period of life to love yourself for who you are without anyone else. Don't rush this time.

4. Vote in a presidential election.

There is nothing like voting for who you want to represent your state or country!

5. Make new friends.

The best friends I have, I met during my college years. These people are the ones you share the happiness and stress that comes along with adulthood. Don't let these people go.

6. Find your favorite place to sit and think.

Trust me, when life gets hard (it will in your 20s), the best thing to have is a place where you feel safe and happy!

7. Follow your wildest dream...

and see where it leads you. Maybe it is the wrong dream to follow, but you will never know if you ignore that passion pulling at your soul.

8. Have at least one book you would recommend to a friend.

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. Simply amazing.

9. Have one band/artist that will never fail you.

Ed Sheeran, Halsey, and Twenty One Pilots. (I have three).

10. Make a career decision...

and assume it will change one more time before you become a full adult. We can't predict our futures.

11. Share your passion with your parents.

Nothing will make them happier than to know you are doing what you love. Share your happiness with them. They mean it when they say your happiness is theirs.

12. Write one poem, or 40.

Writing is the key to understanding, at least it is for some of us. Document these years of your life. They may not be the best (as many say) but they are worth remembering.

13. Create a wild goal, and pursue it.

I want to write a novel in the next 5 years....I am doing my best to pursue that. (I am still trying to figure out a plot and characters lol).

14. Learn to love your body.

It is yours, take care of it and love it. You are beautiful.

15. Quit a bad habit.

I fail at this all the time. But it's at least worth a try.

16. Have a resume on file.

You will never expect to need it at a wedding or birthday party, but you never know who will walk into your life.

17. Fly alone.

Taking a trip alone, or at least going somewhere on your own will teach you more about life than college will. Will you lose your I.D., will you remember your flight time? Who knows:)

18. Make enough memories for a lifetime.

These are the "glory years." But whether they are good or bad, at least be able to look back and say "yes, I took every opportunity I could."

19. Find your hidden passion.

Look for that little spark inside you, and fuel it. Music, art, exercise - find that passion and grow it!

20. And finally, get into the habit of learning something new - every day.

Whether it be that you didn't know rain could soak through all 3 layers of clothing, that the ants always find a way into your first apartment, or that you have to fail a few times to get some things right - learning will never get old.

Let's hope we won't get too old either hahahaha!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
