20 Things You Should Do This Spring To (Almost) Feel Like A Kid Again

Take a break from adulting this spring.

Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years has passed and so has the snowy, cold weather (for the most part). Time to rip off that winter coat and put those duck boots back in the closet. But what is there to do in the spring other than cleaning and attempting to stifle the sneezes? As kids, we would run around and bike with our friends, play in the rain, eat popsicles, and try not to seem too excited for summer. Why not keep doing that now, too? We don't have to act like adults all the time so here are some adult-ish ways to enjoy the sunny spring weather.

1. Go on a hike.

Hikes are good for clearing your mind and rejuvenating your spirits. Who knows, you might meet some new friends (human and nonhuman).

2. Walk in a park.

3. Pick strawberries.

4. Take pictures in a flower field.

There are all kinds of cool plants that bloom in the spring. Even if you don't take pictures, they're still pretty to look at. You also might be able to pick a few and bring some home.

5. Go to the beach.

6. Float on a river in an inner tube.

Grab some friends, get some tubes, and just float on.

7. Read in the sun.

It's even more fun and relaxing if you have a hammock to sit in.

8. Clean out your closet of clothes you never wear and donate them.

This'll make you feel good but give you more space to put more clothes!

9. Sleep.

We all need to get some sleep. Catch some ZZZ's like everyone was catching Pokemon last summer.

10. Find new music to listen to in the summer.

11. Spend time with those who are important to you.

12. Plant something.

The more you grow!

13. Have a picnic.

Grab your friends, family, and/or significant other and a picnic basket full of good food and take it to the beach or park.

14. Ride a bike.

15. Go to the zoo or aquarium.

16. Watch a sunrise.

I know y'all will probably think I'm weird for saying this, but I love getting up at the wee hours of the morning to watch a sunrise (on most days). Take a drive one morning and allow yourself to enjoy the sunrise. They're a great way to start the day! You can also add yoga, stretching, or just a morning coffee to make it even better.

17. Sit under the stars.

Starting the day outside is just as nice as ending the day outside. Watch a sunset then stare at the stars for a little. Bring a friend or a significant other and the conversations get deeper and deeper as the moon rises.

18. Create something.

Go to your creative Pinterest board and make something! It can be something useful or just something pretty to look at, but let your creative juices flow!

19. Drive without a destination and listen to music you listened to as a kid.

Throwback jams will always make you feel young(er) again.

20. Paint rocks and hide them around your college or town.

I've seen a lot of doodled-on or painted rocks hidden around town. I'm not sure what started the rock craze, but it's cute and creative. If you babysit or teach young kids, rock painting is also a great craft to do with them!

Spring is the time for new beginnings, but there's nothing wrong with going back to the old ways sometimes!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
