20 Things I Learned By Age 20

No longer considered a teenager. Ready to start the adventure of a new decade. It's time to reminisce and reflect: here are 20 things I learned by 20.

1. Seasons of life are not forever. Enjoy them while they last. Hold on to every moment and memory.

2. Never turn down a spontaneous adventure.

3. Family is everything.

4. Love well, laugh often and live your life for Christ.

5. Traveling expands your horizons. If you travel far enough, you meet yourself.

6. There is so much to see and explore in this world.

7. You're alive and destined to create and explore until your last breath.

8. You are never too old for anything Disney related. Whether that be Disney World or Disney movies.

9. The hard work you put in now (especially during college) is worth it. Do it for your future.

10. God knows your destiny and future more than you do. Don't fear tomorrow, always trust him.

11. Sisters are God's reminder of joy and gift of spunk.

12. You can never watch too many episodes of "Gilmore Girls."

13. Music, your favorite band and a concert can cure just about anything. Always see your favorite bands and artists live if you have the chance.

14. Your time is important and it goes by quickly. Spend it wisely. Spend it with others, but also make yourself a priority to care for yourself spiritually, physically and mentally.

15. You can't always do everything. Don't be afraid to say "no." Firmly stand by your decisions and don't second guess yourself.

16. It's not the number of friends you have, but the quality of your friendships that's important.

17. Not everyone will have your best interest at heart, recognize the people that do and treat them well.

18. Always treat and embrace everyone with grace and kindness.

19. Don't settle for less than God's best.

20. If you can dream it, you can do it. Look fear in the face and be bold, brave and fearless.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
