“Hello, it’s me -- I was wondering if after all these years you’d like to meet."

Who wrote that song again? Oh that’s right, only one of the most incredible and talented female singers of this century! Still don’t know who I’m talking about? Adele, of course! The same Adele who had the hit album "21" a few years back with the songs “Rolling in the Deep” and “Rumor Has It!” And the very same Adele who just dropped her new album "25" a few days ago!

Oh Adele, what is there to say about Adele? Well, actually there are lots of things to say about her, because not only does she have the talent, but she has the personality, ambition, and excitement to go with it. If, as with her other albums, "25" explodes in popularity over the next few weeks, here are some things you should know about Adele.

She was raised by a single mother.

Adele’s father left her family when she was little, and, while she kept in contact with him for many years, her mother had to take over raising a daughter alone. All things considered, I personally think she did an amazing job!

Her name has a color in it!

Her full name is Adele Laurie Blue Adkins. That’s right, blue: as in the sky, raspberry snow cones, and Smurfs. Clearly something about her name worked out for her, so maybe it’s time to consider making Purple a part of one of my future baby name choices!

She has won a lot of awards.

Out of the 168 awards she was nominated for, she took home 86 of them! Not only does she have a BT Digital Music award and four Brit Awards (which are the British equivalent to the Grammys), she also received a Golden Globe and an Academy award for Best Original Song, four AMA’s, 13 Billboard Music awards, and not one, not two, not three, but 10 Grammy Awards! The combined weight of those Grammy awards alone is over 30 pounds.

Her albums are famous worldwide.

This one should not be a surprise because, given how much we adore Adele, it just makes sense that everyone else loves her just as much! Her album "21" reached the number one spot on the charts in 26 different countries worldwide! In the UK specifically, where she is originally from, she became the first living artist to achieve two top five hits (Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart) since the Beatles!

She is a college graduate.

While many artists in the music industry did not attend higher education, Adele successfully graduated from the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology, class of 2006. Famous classmates of hers include Leona Lewis and Jessie J!

She appeared on SNL in the same episode as Sarah Palin.

Adele’s musical breakthrough in the United States came not long after she appeared on the same episode of Saturday Night Live as Sarah Palin did. That particular episode in 2008 was the highest rated episode released in 14 years! After that appearance as a guest musician, Adele saw her music jump from 35th to 11th on the Billboard charts, and often jokes that Sarah Palin made her career!

Her compositions appear in a James Bond movie.

Ever seen the James Bond movie "Skyfall?" If you have, you most likely remember the theme song, which was not only intense and powerful in its message, but had a fantastic orchestra that left many viewers with the chills. Why does that relate to Adele? Because she not only sings it, but she also co-wrote it with Paul Epworth! If you did not see the movie, chances are you have probably heard the song anyway, but in case you need a refresher, check out the video here!

She recovered from vocal surgery.

Life as a singer is not all awards and concerts, and, as Adele knows all too well, sometimes the extra strain can cause vocal problems. Adele underwent vocal surgery in 2011 to remove a polyp from her vocal cords! Thankfully, she recovered well and now is back to music even stronger than before!

When the song “Hello” was released, it got popular, fast.

We are used to hearing about music videos getting millions of views, but those views usually accumulate over several days to even several weeks! Not for “Hello,” which was released only about a month ago! In the first 24 hours, the video for “Hello” was viewed more than 27.7 million times! That is more than a million views per hour! That number of views broke the VEVO record for the most views in a day (take that Taylor Swift)! Oh, and in addition to that, “Hello” is the number one single in 85 countries!

She’s a mom.

Adele has a son! And being a very protective mom of her little boy, it took her 94 days to release the baby’s name, Angelo, and she does her best to keep him out of the eye of the media.

Other celebs and musicians like and respect her.

Lots of love comes Adele’s way from other celebrities and musicians. She has had praise from a wide range of people including Kanye West, Beyonce, Madonna, Patti LaBelle, Celine Dion, Dave Grohl (from the Foo Fighters and Nirvana), Slash, Stevie Nicks, and Pharrell Williams.

Her vocal ability is pretty amazing.

In technical terms, Adele possesses a two octave and three note mezzo-soprano vocal range. That means she can hit two octaves worth of keys on the piano plus three, and her range is in the middle of the right half of a piano. Other vocalists have been known to have a wider vocal range, but what makes Adele unique is her ability to hold notes, jump from highs to lows, and put power behind her notes.

She donates a significant amount to charity.

In total, Adele has donated her time and energy into performing at seven different charity events for a variety of organizations worldwide, including the Save the Music Foundation, Pride London, MusiCares, SANDS, and London’s Union Chapel. She also has donated autographed items for actions and raises money for these charities. While on the Adele Live tour, she was able to collect $13,000 for Sands, which goes to supporting people who have had to cope with the loss of a baby.

The Spice Girls were her inspiration for getting into music.

My favorite Spice Girl? Melanie Brown, aka Scary Spice. Adele’s favorite Spice Girl? Geri Halliwell, aka Ginger Spice! Adele has credited the Spice Girls as the ones who ignited her love for music and her passion for her career.

She stands behind the LGBT+ community.

Back in 2011, Adele threw a free concert for the charity Pride London. The goal of this organization is to “generate celebratory, cultural, artistic and educational events which affirm the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender, two-spirited people and our allies.”

She’s a world record holder.

Not for anything like the world’s longest human tunnel skateboarded through, but she does have three Guinness World Records! The first record she received was for being the first female to have topped the UK charts by having two singles and two albums in the UK Top 5 at the same time. The second record is for being the first female artist to break the record for most consecutive weeks with a top album (the album was "21" and it was number one for 11 weeks). Lastly, her album "21"also received the record for the most cumulative weeks (18 weeks to be exact) a solo female artist had ever had at number one.

Tattoos? Yes, she has them!

Everyone knows that Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Lawrence have tattoos, but for some reason Adele’s ink gets left out! Adele actually rocks a total of five (known) tattoos. One on each hand, two on her left wrist, and one behind her ear. Maybe she has more, who knows?

She gave up alcohol.

When she was younger, Adele was involved in a romantic relationship with a guy who was about 10 years older than her. After their relationship became rocky and she realized she was drinking way too much alcohol, Adele decided to give it up completely. She herself has described her alcohol intake as “tons,” and at 20 years old decided enough was enough. This might sound strange to Americans, but the drinking age in London is 18, not 21.

Her view on her body is relatable and candid.

Just by looking at Adele, you can see she is incredibly gorgeous. I mean really truly. She radiates beauty, confidence, and talent -- a rare combination. However, Adele does not fit the traditional Hollywood-style body of being super skinny, slender, and still well endowed. Most of us don’t fit that mold, and can totally relate to Adele when she says, "I love food and hate exercise. I don’t have time to work out. I don’t want to be on the cover of Playboy or Vogue. I want to be on the cover of Rolling Stone or Q. I’m not a trend-setter. I’m a singer. I’d rather weigh a ton and make an amazing album than look like Nicole Richie and do a s**t album. My aim in life is to never be skinny.”

Her Twitter game is on point.

In the last year, my best friend has tweeted 406 times. For all the avid Twitter users out there, that is pretty average. Adele on the other hand, in the five years she has a twitter account, has only tweeted 223 times. Each one of those tweets, however rare they might be, is followed by more than 23.5 million people, so all in all, pretty good I’d say!

As you delve into her new album and decide, as is almost inevitable, that Adele is your current number one favorite artist, keep these facts in mind and she just might be your number one favorite celebrity too! Plus, you can wow all of your friends with your extensive knowledge. And hey, if you ever get lucky enough to meet Adele, you can maybe use these things as a talking point!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
