1. Don't strive to make your presence noticed, just make your absence felt.

Being the center of attention is not always a good thing. You don't have to announce yourself for people to notice you.

2. It's okay to make a mistake as long as you learn from it.

If you can admit that you messed up, people will respect you more for that than for being perfect.

3. Take all the advice you can get from your parents or your friend's parents.

Chances are they know what they are talking about.

4. If you want something, you must work for it.

Because nothing worth having ever comes easy.

5. Great things never come from comfort zones.

You be may scared to death at first, but what's even scarier is staying in the same place forever.

6. Getting enough sleep and washing your face are very important.

Just do it or you'll learn it the hard way.

7. When you have to choose between staying in or going out with friends, always go out.

The work never ends, but the opportunities to make memories will.

8. Always stay true to yourself.

Be who you were raised to be, don't try to fit in because it's better to stand out.

9. Take criticism constructively, not personally.

Use what others say about you as an opportunity to improve yourself.

10. Learn to deal with difficult people.

You might as well because you will have many encounters with them.

11. Apologizing is a strength, not a weakness.

It says a lot to be able to admit that you were wrong.

12. Always be aware of your surroundings.

The world isn't as safe as it once was.

13. It's okay to ask for help.

Don't let your pride get in the way, everyone needs help every once in a while.

14. Sometimes you have to make the choice to leave behind something you love.

...or you'll never know what you missed.

15. If you have to sneak to do it, lie to cover it up or delete it to avoid it being seen, then you probably shouldn't be doing it.

Honesty is ALWAYS the best policy.

16. Don't forget to have fun!

As stressful as college is, you need a break every once in a while.

17. Respect goes a long way.

The way you carry yourself says a lot about your character, and people will notice that.

18. Think before you react.

You can't take back the words you said, or how you made people feel.

19. You'll find out who your real friends are.

...and you'll learn to appreciate them.

20. Make time for the people you love.

Because time is the greatest thing you can give to someone.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
