20 Things I've Learned

20 Things I've learned in 19 years! Happy birthday to me

Since it is officially my birth month and also the last month I will be a teenager I decided to do a list of twenty things I've learned these twenty years I've been here on this round rock we call home.

1. I'm a Virgo/Libra cusp child

This means that instead of having only one astrology sign technically I'm both. A cusp child is a child that's born on either the first day that sign starts or the last day for me I was born on the first day for Libra. (September 23rd- October 22nd) So instead of just having libra traits, I have traits from both virgo and libra. This just means I get to look at both horoscopes!

2. There is no better feeling than being at a concert

I've been to a handful of concerts in my life and hoping to go to more. I've seen Charlie Daniels, Lynard Skynard, Hunter Hayes, The Band Perry, Echosmith, but my favorite had to be Pvirs. I've never felt more at home in a theater full of complete strangers covered in tattoos, piercings, and I'm pretty sure the entire rainbow for hair colors.

3. Forgetting your headphones is literally the worst

This I'm sure is kinda self explanatory for those of us who have ever forgotten our headphones or they've just broken for no reason.

4. Knowing someone for a long time doesn't mean anything

I had two people I would have done anything for and they threw it all away. I was so lost and hurt but that pain has only made me stronger. Just because you have known someone for a long time doesn't mean they have your best interest at heart.

5. I have an un-biological twin

I know this sounds so weird but its true. One of my best friends and I have the same birthday and we were born two minutes apart but we are in no way related.

6. Little things can bring you the most joy

I've found that it's the small things that make me really happy. My uncle was the one that pointed this out because he heard me get really excited about my chaco tan after I got my first pair of chaos. He just looked at me and said "little things make you happy don't they?" Yes, yes they do.

7. Quitting something cold turkey can actually work

My current boyfriend helped me quit drinking sodas (shocking I know a college student that doesn't drink soda *gasp*). I used to love pepsi and would drink two or three a day, then one day I felt awful and realized that every time I was drinking pepsi I'd later feel sick. So I paused, looked at the pepsi in my hand, looked at my boyfriend, and said I'm done and threw it away. I have not drank another one since.

8. Looks can deceive you

If you've meet me and see my appearance, you'd think that all I listen to is punk and hardcore rock music. Now don't get me wrong my playlist does contain Guns N Roses, Pvris, Volbeat, Theory of a Deadman, etc. but it also contains just as much country and a handful of pop songs.

9. A decision that scares you can sometimes be the right one

I used to have long hair, and I was terrified to cut it. So what do I do? Cut off 8 inches and shave half my head. It's since grown out into a pixie cut but still the best decision I've ever made.

10. Working in food and with the public sucks

You really don't understand how crappy people can be until you do. I'm grateful to have a job, yes. But I'm not a doormat for people to treat however they want!

11. Leggings can be worn as pants I don't care what other people say

And they're way more comfortable than jeans. Anyone who says they aren't pants is just jealous.

12. There is no better feeling than an oversized sweatshirt

I don't know about anyone else but if I can get a sweatshirt or just a long sleeve shirt that is a size or two bigger than what I usually wear, I'll do it .

13. Adulthood sucks

Can I go back to my childhood? No? Okay. If you are reading this and can't wait to be an adult, stop, it's a trap.

14. Fall weather is literally the best

Summer sucks, it's always to hot and muggy in Alabama. At least in fall and winter you can just put on more clothing or get a blanket. But in summer? What am I supposed to do? Pull my skin off?

15. Your high school friend group won't stay together

Yes, you'll keep in contact with them but it won't be like before. You won't see them everyday so you'll slowly drift apart. You may keep one or two friends from high school.

16. High school honestly sucks.

Everyone says high school will be the best four years of your life, and for some that may be true but in my opinion, college, as much as it sucks, is still better than high school. It just needs to be cheaper.

17. Be yourself, always be yourself!

Take it from someone who tried to keep everyone happy and I always came second. Stay true to yourself, you'll be much happier that way.

18. Tattoos are addictive.

I got my first tattoo when I was 18. I got it for my mom and I had to fight to get my aunt and uncle to agree, I eventually gave up and got it behind their backs. I told them it would be the only one I got and at the time I meant that. But I was wrong. I now have 4 in total and I love all of them because they all have special meaning to me. I also plan on getting more eventually. My body is a temple and I want to decorate the walls.

19. If you need help just ask

I went through a really rough patch in high school and I never asked for help until it was almost to late. If you need help, ask, please ask for it, don't try to deal with it on your own. Or talk to someone don't bottle things up. And if you ever need anyone to talk to, I will listen. Just please don't suffer in silence, you aren't alone, I promise.

20. To quote Doctor Who-

What's the point of being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes

Life is a huge mess and it sucks and sometimes you want to just quit, but it can also be an amazing and happy roller coaster and that's what these last nineteen years have been for me! These are just a few things I have learned, maybe you can relate.. Here's to 20 years for me. Here's to my twenties being better than my teens.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
