20 Things I Wish I Could Tell My High School Self

High school is hard for many. It is the time that people go in and out of friend groups, worry about what college to attend, the days of crushes and heartbreaks, the endless adventures of your rebellious stage and most importantly growing up. I found myself absolutely lost going through my awkward four years of high school. I didn't know where I was heading or who I wanted to be.

I wish I could talk to my 14-year-old self to give myself some direction and advice of how to handle those years. Although I have learned a lot in my three years of college, I would have loved a little more expectations of what is to come in my life.

So with that, here are the 20 things I would tell myself as a high school student.

1. Your ACT or SAT score is not a measure of your academic skills and chances are it won't effect your admission to your top college.

2. Stop memorizing MLA format. Just save some time and use EasyBib.Com.

3. The unplanned nights where everything goes wrong actually makes for the best story later.

4. Find genuine and reliable friends you can be 100 percent completely your weird self around. It's about Quality over Quantity.

5. Stop wasting time trying to be in the cool group. What even is "cool" any more?

6. Respect your parents--they truly love you and want the best for you, listen and trust them. And soon on your own, you will appreciate them more than ever.

7. Actually listen to your teachers. You will be surprised how much they actually have to say, beyond what's in the text books teaching a boring lesson.

8. Your hard work in school will be worth it. But come on, don't kill yourself.

9. Surround yourself with people you don't normally hang out with. You will be surprised who you meet.

10. Don't forget to forgive yourself-- People make mistakes and you learn from them.

11. Technology is cool and can help you do fun and interesting things. But keep it in perspective, don't let it consume you.

12. Take naps, oh will you appreciate those later!

13. The outfit you wear on the first day of school isn’t actually that important.

14. Don’t think about community service as something you have to do. Do it for others and be appreciative doing the work.

15. Avoid getting into big fights over little things. Pick your battles wisely.

16. Enjoy your first high school romance, but don't get too attached. High school sweethearts unfortunately don't always work out.

17. That zit you got on prom night won’t be the worst thing that ever happens to you.

18. Don’t let the opinions of others stand in your way of doing something, prove them wrong.

19. Excel at what you do. Develop a reputation for yourself that you can do anything you set your mind to

20. Be weird, be happy, be a musician, be a nerd, be awkward-- Whatever it is, just be the person you want to be, and everything else will fall into place.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
