20 Things To Do When It's Cold Outside

Walking in a winter wonderland might just be the perfect idea of a great time for some people, but for many, it's pure torture. The ground is slick and snow covered, there's not much to do outside, and above all, it's cold. Too cold. The wind blows and smacks you right in the face, and if you're not wearing a proper coat, you're in for a heck of a day. Now, some people love the winter weather because they can ski, snowboard, go tubing and so many other things, but if you are not "made for winter," it's going to be a rough couple of months. So what are you left to do? Well, here are 20 ideas to help you through this winter season.

1. Watch movies

This will take up a nice chunk of time and give you hours of entertainment. Pick your favorite comedy, rom-com, action or animated movies and the day is set!

2. Curl up on the couch

Grab a nice, comfy blanket and a plush pillow and relax the day away. You'll get in some productive thinking time and even stay warm.

3. Read a good book

That book you've been saying is your all-time favorite? Actually read it and remember why it's your favorite in the first place. It'll probably be even better than the last time you read it; plus, you'll probably learn something new about it.

4. Take a nap

Let's face it. You're not going to want to really do anything and you probably haven't been sleeping too well lately. Take a cue from the cold and take that well deserved nap.

5. Have a cooking/baking challenge

Have fun in the kitchen! Try out that new recipe you wanted to, and make it fun. Maybe host your own version of "Chopped" and enjoy the product afterwards.

6. Take a bunch of online quizzes

You were probably wondering when you'd get married, what job is best for you and who you'd be in Taylor Swift's squad anyways, so go ahead take the quiz! #squadgoals

7. Make new playlists

That music you hear on the radio? Buy it and put it on a playlist. Or just organize your playlists. Make it easier on yourself and label genres like classic rock, pop, rap, etc. You'll thank yourself later when you're searching for that one song you just can't think of.

8. Plan a vacation

Even if you have no money, planning a trip to somewhere warm might just be the best thing to do. Plan what you'd do in the Bahamas and dream a little. Heck, you might even be able to take that trip sometime in the future.

9. Color a picture

Buy into the new fad and purchase one of those awesome adult coloring books. You'll enjoy endless hours of entertainment and relaxation as you color the day away.

10. Call your best friends

You probably miss them like crazy anyway, so call, don't text! Hear their voices and talk for hours. They'll probably thank you for distracting them for a while.

11. Go shopping (online, of course)

When you have the need to buy, why leave your home? Pick out anything you want and have it shipped right to your door. You can avoid the cold and get awesome stuff that way.

12. Clean

Your room is probably a tad bit cluttered and messy. Take this time to organize and clean it up. It'll take a while and you'll be thankful that you did it later on.

13. Watch YouTube videos

Just start looking at all of those funny videos you've been putting off watching. Laugh until you cry and keep going.

14. Re-organize your room

Have you been thinking of what your room would look like if your bed were on the other wall or your dresser were turned sideways? Try it out. You might like it, or you might hate it. The good news is you can always move it all again.

15. Design your future home

HGTV has probably been giving you home inspiration for years. Take all of that and plan out what every room of your future house will look like. Just don't look at the costs, or you might cry.

16. Watch reality TV

Reality TV is not even close to seeming real, but it is highly entertaining. Put it on and see just how crazy and messed up some people's lives are.

17. Catch up on "Say Yes to the Dress"

Just because you don't have a wedding to plan doesn't mean you shouldn't know what's in style. Watch it, judge the people and laugh every time Randy or Monte makes a funny comment.

18. Work out in the comfort of your own home

Working out is a necessary part of your adult life, but going to the gym or to exercise outside is just too much for this cold weather. Pop onto ON Demand and work out with some of the best trainers. You'll feel good and look good without leaving the warm air.

19. Plan your week

You probably have a bunch of stiff to do anyways, so why not be prepared? Make lists, and use that planner you have. Be ready for the week ahead and know what you're going to do in the coming days.

20. Pray for spring weather

It'll happen eventually, but maybe call in the big guns and pray for those 50-degree days to be here a little sooner.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
