19 Questions People From Southern Cal Are Asked By Everyone Else

I am probably one of very few people who had no problem with moving away from Southern California. While Katy Perry does make it seem like a fine, fresh, fierce place, in reality it’s just really hot and crowded all the time. I moved to Michigan to join the Hospitality program at Grand Valley State University. Though it was fun being the new kid on the block for a while, I quickly realized many people were questioning my sanity when they found out I was from sunny California (the destination vacation spot everyone wants to visit).

Here are 20 questions that I have been asked so many times, I could relay my answers in my sleep:

1. Do you know any movie stars?

2. Can you surf?

3. How far away from the beach did you live?

4. Have you ever been to Mexico?

5. Why do you talk like that?

6. Why aren't you more tan?

7. Have you ever been to Coachella?

8. Aren't you afraid of what’s in the ocean?

9. Don’t you miss your family?

10. You’ve been in an earthquake before?!

11. Is the traffic in LA really that bad?

12. Do you even know what rain is?

13. Are you like, super rich then?

14. What is considered “cold” for you?

15. Do you even know what snow is?

16. What’s the coldest it gets there?

17. Do you even own winter clothes?

18. Are you ready for winter?

19. Do you even know what winter is?

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
