Twenty. My last year before becoming a full-fledged adult; the first year of the rest of my life. I have lived two decades. I feel old and young at the same time: old enough to impart some wisdom and young enough to be reckless. Here are twenty things I’ve learned in twenty years of life.
- Everyone’s too busy with their own insecurities to notice yours.
- It’s not realistic to be close friends with an ex.
- Love includes timing.
- Make sure your home has a plunger.
- Sometimes you don’t need more of a reason beyond “I want to”.
- Taking initiative can lead to good things.
- Crying will make you feel better.
- You won’t get along with everyone.
- In countries where the denomination for a dollar is a coin, you don’t pelt exotic dancers with coins.
- If you want to say no, say it.
- Saying thank you instead of apologizing puts a positive perspective on things.
- If you want to eat healthy, the vegetarian option may be more interesting than a salad.
- Remember to give yourself a break.
- Let go when necessary.
- Finding time for yourself can be hard.
- Read the syllabus carefully before the start of classes.
- Ask questions.
- The only way to trust someone is to trust them.
- Sleep is good for you.
- Plan out your meals and meal times.
