Southern Connecticut State University is a small school with a big heart located in New Haven, CT just down the street from Yale. SCSU provides amazing opportunities such as student involvement in over 100 clubs and organizations and stellar professors and academics. But, you can't appreciate going to Southern without accepting the quirks that come along with being a student here. Abby and Ilana are going to help illustrate the feelings, thoughts, and emotions that all Southern students have gone through or will inevitably go through during their time being an SCSU owl.

1. When someone in your dorm building sets off the fire alarm in the middle of the night

2. When your financial aid refund gets deposited into your bank account

3. When you get the email from Patrick Dilger saying the University is closed due to inclement weather

Patty D always coming in clutch

4. When it's Thursday night and you managed to make a schedule with no Friday classes

5. When someone tries to talk to you in your 8:10 a.m. class

Why are these even a thing?

6. When you realize you're wearing the same outfit to your MW class that you wore to your TR class so you attempt to alter it slightly

7. When it's your junior year and you're already having a quarter life crisis

8. When you just can't keep up with your inbox

And they're all from SCSU Announcements

9. When you've been in Buley library for so long that you don't even know what day it is

Because cramming and procrastinating is a SCSU's students' speciality

10. When you're excited that your favorite artist is performing at Toad's

11. When you miraculously find parking in the Wintergreen or Davis parking garage

A true blessing

12. When walking from the dorms to the academic side in the winter feels like a journey

Especially when you have a class in Davis

13. When you have to wake up at 6 a.m. to register for classes and the one you desperately need is already full

14. When Banner crashes as you're trying to register for classes

Why do bad things always seem to happen to good people?

15. What you say to someone when they decide to sit in the seat you've been sitting in all semester

It's just an unwritten rule that everyone should abide by

16. When it's been a week since the semester ended and final grades still haven't been posted to Banner

17. Eavesdropping on other people's conversations/gossip while waiting in the ridiculously long Dunkin line

Because how else would you pass the time?

18. How you feel about people who forget to take their laundry out of the dryer

19. That feeling you get when you order delivery from Pizza Heaven or get take-out from Pepe's

Thank God for New Haven's wide selection of amazing pizza places to choose from

20. Walking out of your advising appointment after they tell you that you're on track to graduate on time

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
