Ink of Life

Your 20s can be a time of reflection and self-discovery. You may be in college or finally done with college, and it’s time to make some life choices. However, it is hard to make decisions when you feel like you barely know who you are as a person. Due to the fast-paced fun of college life, you barely spent any time alone. Solitude is one of the best ways to get to know oneself. Take the time to explore yourself in new ways. Here is a list of things to do by yourself before you begin your journey into the next part of your life.

1. Start a journal. A journal allows you to organize your thoughts and reflect on what might be on your mind.

2. Join a yoga class. Yoga is a great way to mediate and who knows, you might meet some cool people.

3. Find a new talent. Take the time to learn how to play that instrument you’ve always wanted to play.

4. Run a half marathon. Because let’s face it, marathons are too long and half-marathons are still pretty impressive.

5. Spend all day in a bookstore. Get lost. Pick up a book or two and just read the day away.

6. Write a letter to your past. Tie up loose ends and let it go.

7. Take a road trip to somewhere you’ve never been. Where? Anywhere.

8. Go to a music festival. And wear something you normally wouldn’t wear while you’re at it. Listen to music you’ve never heard before.

9. Watch the sun rise. We associate waking up early with doing things we don’t want to do so we often fail to see the true beauty of a sunrise. Take a nap after if needed.

10. Visit a museum. You probably won’t understand the art, but go anyways.

11. Ride a train somewhere and spend the day there. Spontaneously buy a ticket to the next destination available and spend the day there.

12. Get a tattoo. Getting a tattoo of something small and meaningful can be a great story, just make sure it's someplace you can hide.

13. Watch movies based on classic novels. Because let’s face it, you’re not going to read the books, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the movies.

14. Bake something from scratch. Spend the day in the kitchen and bake your heart out.

15. Take a hike. But don’t get lost.

16. Spend a day in silence. Most often we use words to fill space and we forget how beautiful silence can be. Spending a day in silence will also make you appreciate more your ability to speak and use words.

17. Go to the park and people watch. This is probably the best thing ever invented.

18. Treat yourself to a nice dinner. I’m talking five stars. Enjoy a gourmet meal after all those years of fast food and ramen noodles.

19. Drink wine in a bubble bath. You deserve it.

20. And of course, travel the world. Traveling can give you memories that money can’t. Don’t worry about the money. Buy a plane ticket and just go. Don’t make any plans and see where you end up. Don’t wait until you’re old and retired; travel while you’re still young. You only live one life, so live it to the fullest.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
