Recently, I've noticed a recurring pattern. When people are asked,

“What kind of music do you like to listen to?”

The most common response is something along the lines of,

“I like all music; anything but country.”

I think the stereotype surrounding country music has shaped our opinions before we really listen to what country music has become. Yes, there are a lot of songs about drinking and heartbreak, but modern country has become something much more. Trust me when I say it’s worth trying.

The reason why so many people love country music is the heart behind it. Listening to it just makes you happy. It reminds you of the carefree days of summer and the little moments that make life beautiful. Country music is a sense of “small town” community; a personification of what really matters: good friends and family.

Give this playlist a chance, and maybe you’ll find some new favorites.

1. "Wasted Time" - Keith Urban

This is one of my all-time favorite country songs, and it's totally underrated and under appreciated! It makes you realize that all of the time you've seemingly "wasted" by not being productive or working are the best moments of your life; just living for now and enjoying good company.

2. "Leave the Night On" - Sam Hunt

"Girl, you got the beat right. Killin' in your Levi's."

3. "T-Shirt" - Thomas Rhett

Helpful tip, boys: Thomas Rhett is an example of the perfect husband. Aspire to be just like him.

4. "Drunk On Your Love" - Brett Eldridge

Seriously, Brett Eldridge's voice is amazing. You have to listen to this one.

5. "You Broke Up With Me" - Walker Hayes

Girls everywhere are falling for Mr. Hayes. Yes, myself included. I'll admit it.

6. "Body Like A Back Road" - Sam Hunt

You've probably already heard this one a million times on the radio, but trust me, it's a jam.

7. "Fix" - Chris Lane

This is one of those songs you can't help but dance to.

8. "Snapback" - Old Dominion

Ladies, maybe we should wear snapbacks more often? Old Dominion certainly appreciates them.

9. "House Party" - Sam Hunt

Another Sam Hunt song on this playlist? What a surprise! This one is about those nights that you just want to stay in, and that one person you can always have fun with (even when it's just the two of you).

10. "Homegrown" - Zac Brown Band

This is another amazing song to dance to all about good friends and life in a small town.

11. "Crash and Burn" - Thomas Rhett

Another incredible love song by Mr. Thomas Rhett.

12. "When It Rains It Pours" - Luke Combs

More of a light-hearted, funny song about failed relationships.

(Make sure to look up the clean version if you prefer!)

13. "Vacation" - Thomas Rhett

This is the perfect song to listen to at the beach, hence the name.

14. "Sangria" - Blake Shelton

If you prefer slower songs, this one is perfect for you.

15. "I Like The Sound Of That" - Rascal Flatts

The Rascal Flatts never disappoint.

Bonus: "Broken Halos" - Chris Stapleton

This song is absolutely beautiful, and Stapleton's voice is unlike any other. Definitely listen to his music, because I think he deserves so much more recognition! (Nobody To Blame and Parachute are two more of my favorites by him.)

I know this playlist didn't feature any female country artists, but there are so many great ones! These are just my personal top 15 at the moment.

XO by Kelsey Ballerini, Tin Man and Mama's Broken Heart by Miranda Lambert are a few of my favorites, and, of course, Carrie Underwood is incredible with Dirty Laundry, Church Bells, Before He Cheats, Little Toy Guns, Good Girl, and more.

Remember, there's nothing wrong with adding a little bit of southern hospitality into your playlist. Give country a chance!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
