Hi, I’m Samantha. Music fanatic, small town band lover, and merch girl at heart. If you read my perfect pick me up songs, you'll love this. Thanks to the power of music, I’m here to help you find the perfect songs to add to your playlists. If you have any playlist topic requests, comment below the article! You could see your request next week!
If you’re anything like me, you’ve grown up listening to almost every genre of music and love going to concerts. Because of that, there are so many bands that I love from my childhood (not like it was that long ago). Here’s to all of you pop punk kids, turn up the stereo and rock out with me!
1. “What’s My Age Again?” by Blink-182
Nobody likes you when you’re 23, and that’s okay. Most of Blink’s songs are nostalgic for me. I got to see them in concert when I was a sophomore in high school, and it was an incredible experience. 10/10 would recommend.
2. “Dani California” by Red Hot Chili Peppers
This is one that almost everybody knows. Sing the lyrics as loud as you can! The video gave me a few laughs, too.
3. “Fatlip” by Sum 41 (Explicit)
Don’t become another casualty of society, be your own person. Get up and dance to this one, you know you want to!
4. “Reptilia” by The Strokes
I absolutely love the instruments in this song, and the vocals, and just everything. I got to know it from Rock Band--you know what I’m talking about.
5. “Ocean Avenue” by Yellowcard
I know you’re going to sing along to this one. I had the privilege to see Yellowcard perform this song at the Vans Warped Tour in 2015. Even though I wasn’t at the front of the crowd, the atmosphere was still amazing.
6. “The Kids Aren’t Alright” by The Offspring
Nothing’s free, literally what I live my life by. This music video is definitely one of the most interesting ones I have ever seen.
7. “American Idiot” by Green Day (Explicit)
We all know and love Green Day. Here’s this song since the election is coming up and I don’t know what our country is going to come to.
8. “Misery Business” by Paramore (Explicit)
We have to have some female vocals somewhere in here. This song is one of my top favorites of Paramore’s. When I was younger, I prided myself in being able to sing this song because the lyrics are pretty quick.
9. “I Don’t Care” by Fall Out Boy
I remember this music video playing on the VHS Top 20 countdown. Good times, good times. This is the perfect angsty teenager song that everyone can still relate to.
10. “Dear Maria, Count Me In” by All Time Low
If you’re a true fan of this song, you even do the throat clear/cough at the beginning of the song. I’ve been doing that since grade school. How about you? Can I count you in?
11. “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance
Another song I’ve known since my classmates sang in on the playground at recess during 7th grade. Classic.
12. “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World
It just takes some time; everything will be just fine. Jump around and get on your feet for this one, you know you can’t resist!
13. “The Anthem” by Good Charlotte
This is the anthem, throw all your hands up! You know the words, grab your friends and crank the music up.
14. “I’m Just a Kid” by Simple Plan
I remember first hearing this song in the movie “Cheaper by the Dozen”. I was like, “Oh my gosh! This is totally relatable; my life isn’t so hot.” Now, I know that those days were the good ones, stress-free and without worry.
15. “The Adventure” by Angels & Airwaves
This song totally makes me feel like I’m in California. Sit back and let it take you away.
16. “Gives You Hell” by The All-American Rejects
This music video is one of my favorites. This is a song that we can all sing when we are angry with someone. I know you’ve chanted “When you see my face, hope it gives you hell!”
17. “1985” by Bowling for Soup
You remember this song, right? Never went out of style.
18. “All Signs Point to Lauderdale” by A Day to Remember (Explicit)
I hate this town. This is what I listened to when I just really had a bad day. Don’t tell me you didn’t do the same and yell out the lyrics. Made you feel better, right? Here’s a chance to yell again.
19. “Terrible Things” by Mayday Parade
This song is just so sad but so beautiful. If you’ve never heard it (which I hope you would have), listen to it now!
20. “Growing Up” by Silver Age
Growing up isn’t as great as it may seem. I spoke with Evan Villarreal, vocalist of Silver Age, and this is what he told me:
“Growing Up” in particular is a pretty different song because I wrote all the music for it, but the lyrics were actually written by our old bassist and good friend, Brett Kaminski. So, basically, Growing Up is realizing that during all of your childhood, it seems like growing up is all you want to do, but then as you do, it's almost like you want to hold onto the nostalgia and the things you loved as kids. Growing up comes with hardships, the loss of friends, and great great change, and the only thing you can do is embrace that change, but don't be in a hurry to grow up.
