20 Signs You Played Volleyball

Volleyball was everything to me throughout high school. Playing year-round for seven years made volleyball more than just a sport for me, it was a lifestyle. I now see that I took varsity volleyball way too seriously, as most players do. Nevertheless, I will always cherish my volleyball memories. So here are some signs that you to were a volleyball player:

1. You still own a ridiculous amount of spandex.

Of all different colors and patterns. They are your go-to shorts.

2. You will never use the words "spike" or "bump."

Serious volleyball players know these are not the proper terms.

3. You remember the opening song to your warm-up playlist.

And it still gets you pumped.

4. You can tell a good player from a bad player by their knee pads, sneakers, and ankle guards.

The smaller the knee pads, the better the player.

5. A pancake is not a breakfast food for you.

It will always amaze you when used properly.

6. Your socks always had to match your outfit.

And you probably owned multiple tie-dye ones.

7. You rocked a side pony.

And a side braid.

8. Tournaments were actual torture, but awards made them worth it.

Being up-ref was probably your worst fear, and you went to school the next day on three hours of sleep.

9. Preseason still haunts you.

But it also put you in the best shape of your life.

10. Gym volleyball was no joke.

You had no mercy.

11. You still get too intense when playing volleyball with your friends.

You can't play a game without the proper rules and regulations.

12. You still have knee, shoulder, and/or hip problems.

You also probably hurt your fingers, ankles, and wrists at some point.

13. Coming up with ace, block, and kill cheers was a vital part of preseason.

And you fully judged other team's cheers.

14. There are some games that still make you angry when you think about them.

There are also games and moments that will always bring tears to your eyes.

15. Rituals were everything.

Between warm-ups and handshakes, your team was like a mini-cult.

16. Going to camp with your best friends is a memory you will always cherish.

Even though you spent the entire week being too sore to walk.

17. All high school and club teams had stereotypes that you fully believed in.

Usually these revolved around how much money a team had and how mean their players were.

18. Bus rides were the best part of away games.

Except when you lost. Then it was horrible.

19. You now realize how obnoxious you really were.

Between running around in your booty shorts, blasting music in the gym, or your countless loud cheers, you were obnoxious but you didn't care.

20. You will always appreciated everything your coaches and teammates did for you.

Team sleepovers, pasta dinners, last game speeches, and awards night helped make you the person you are today.

Volleyball will always be a part of your life. Despite the stress and injuries it caused you, it was all worth it in the end.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
