20 Things To Remind Yourself Of In Your 20s
Whole Lot A Health

To keep it simple, sometimes life can get a little complicated when you hit your twenties. Life is hard. It forces us to make decisions we never thought we'd have to make. You're going to feel lost at one point or another. Feeling lost is different for each of us but none of us can deny that it's not the best feeling.

I'm at a point in life where I can admit to myself that I failed to assess myself and figure out what I truly wanted which ultimately led to me feeling lost. Sometimes you have to accept the fact that maybe you enrolled in the wrong program. No matter how far down that wrong road you are, turn around.

For some of us, our 20s are a time when we start to build our careers and begin making decisions that define where we want to be for the next 10 years. For others, this is just a time in life where a lot of mistakes as well as a lot of changes are made.

Regardless, here are some things we could all be reminded of every once in awhile. If you think you’ve got it all figured out, you probably wouldn’t have clicked on this post.

20 things you should be reminded of if you're 20-something.

1. It’s okay to still wonder what the hell you’re doing with your life.

2. One mistake doesn’t kill you, but the same mistake over and over will.

3. Don’t ever take kind people for granted.

4. Consider the source.

5. If it seems too good to be true, trust yourself.

6. There is never an excuse for someone to treat you poorly.

7. Stop comparing.

8. Don't be eye candy, be soul food.

9. You can't make everyone happy; stop trying to please everyone.

10. Learn to invest in the moment because it won’t last forever.

11. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

12. It’s not the end of the world if you don’t go out.

13. If someone tells you they can’t give you what you deserve, listen.

14. Don’t make life decisions based on what others want for you.

15. It’s okay to not be okay all the time, you’re still growing.

16. Stay focused, remind yourself of your goals.

17. Never waste energy fighting the old, focus on the new.

18. Life is too short to feel embarrassed.

19. Learn to love yourself before you try and love someone else.

20. If someone shows you their true colors, don’t try to repaint them.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
