20 Reasons Why Birds Are Like Humans

Just because humans don't fly doesn't mean they aren't very similar to birds. Check out these top 20 reasons why birds are just like you and me.

1. They like to sit in trees.

And so do I. Birds say “I want to sit in a tree, so I’m going to sit in a tree.” I say that, too.

2. They jump in puddles.

One of the life’s most pleasurable feelings.

3. They eat food that has fallen on the ground.

You’re not fooling anybody. We all saw you count to seven and still eat that now carpet crusted candy bar.

4. They like to travel with family and friends.

Migration takes place together.

5. They walk slowly when they’re tired.

As do the best of us.

6. They sing unusual tunes.

Nobody recognizes that version of "Blank Space" you just whistled; the birds never seem to get it right, either.

7. They get trapped.

I remember feeling trapped when I played hide and go seek as a child and nobody remembered to search for me. I also remember the hummingbird trapped in my garage for a day until I tried to use a net for capturing purposes. It then got scared, hit the ceiling, and fell to the ground, dead. Nonetheless, we all get trapped.

8. They get lost.

Sometimes, a bird seems to be flying against the wind. But that has happened to many people, too.

9. They make others happy.

When you hear a bird chirping and washing itself in a bird bath, it makes you smile. Sometimes people make each other smile, too.

10. They like to play.

Birds go swimming and then shake off the water on each other as means of play. Sometimes, when I go swimming, I get a mouthful of water and shoot it through my teeth at the people around me.

11. They like sweets.

Birds enjoy an occasional treat of a French baguette from my mother, as do I.

12. They like to travel.

Migration.

13. They like warm weather.

Don’t we all?

14. Sometimes, they fall behind.

There’s always the lone rider that’s flying east when the flock was flying westward three hours ago. Sometimes, people fall behind, too. The good news is you can always turn around and head back on the right track. Westward, that is.

15. They people watch.

Every morning, when I wake up, there is a bird outside of my window, lurking in the tree. Sometimes, people lurk in trees and bushes and watch others, too.

16. They don’t brush their teeth.

And neither do some people.

17. They enjoy the wind in their faces.

There is nothing like the wind blowing back your hair as you gaze into the sunset.

18. They build sturdy homes.

Just like straw is sturdy for birds, bricks are used for humans.

19. Sometimes birds walk funny.

Many people walk funny, too.

20. They are free.

And so are you.

Birds and humans are almost exactly alike, apart from the wing difference. Which similarity stands out the most to you?

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
