20 Reasons We Love Rainy Sundays

If your life is anything like mine, you're always in a hustle. Between being a full-time student, a part of clubs and activities, sometimes having to be in the library a little too late, and still managing a social life doesn't leave a lot of time to just take a breather from it all. When it does happen, it's a blessing, and more often than not, happens to fall on my favorite undervalued occasion, a rainy Sunday.

Rainy Sundays are a blessing in disguise. When it's rainy, the world seems to quiet down and hunker down inside. Coupling this with the typically less busy, recovery day from a hectic week that Sunday is creates a beautiful combination that many don't appreciate. The day is welcoming you to do so much without doing much at all.

1. Rainy Sundays call for sleeping in. The sound of rain is like a lullaby for big kids.

2. Rainy Sundays call for a long hot shower. Or at least longer than your usual half hour.

3. Rainy Sundays call for no makeup. Not that there's ever really a need for it.

4. Rainy Sundays call for online shopping. Go ahead and splurge, the day needs some sunshine.

5. Rainy Sundays call for over-sized sweatshirts. And some fleece-lined leggings wouldn't hurt either.

6. Rainy Sundays call for watching a full season on Netflix. Or even two if it's that kind of day.

7. Rainy Sundays call for hot cocoa. Or any preferred hot beverage, really.

8. Rainy Sundays call for candles. Grab your go-to scent and cuddle up.

9. Rainy Sundays call for painting your nails. Go ahead and do three coats, you've got all day.

10. Rainy Sundays call for YouTube tutorials. Which you most likely won't be able to do on yourself.

11. Rainy Sundays call for a good book. There's no shame in reading it cover to cover either.

12. Rainy Sundays call for slippers. Real shoes are out of the question.

13. Rainy Sundays call for a face mask. Always exfoliate when you get the chance.

14. Rainy Sundays call for a mellow Spotify station. Cue the John, Colbie, Corinne, and Jack.

15. Rainy Sundays call for messy buns. Honestly the only practical hair style for Sundays.

16. Rainy Sundays call for too many layers of blankets. If you aren't on the brink of sweating, add more.

17. Rainy Sundays call for lengthy Pinterest browsing. Go ahead and pin your future, plan ahead.

18. Rainy Sundays call for lots of snacks. Maintain variety so you can't say you ate the whole bag alone.

19. Rainy Sundays probably should call for catching up on some homework. Probably, but eh.

20. Rainy Sundays call for letting time slow down for just a little while. Soak it all in while you can.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
