Maine, the northernmost member of New England; home to lobster, moose, and a whole lot of snow. With the harsh winters, it's hard to see why anyone would ever want to be here. So, is summer in Maine any better?

The short answer is yes. Summer in Maine, specifically southern Maine, is wonderful. If you want the long answer, which includes why summer in southern Maine is great, keep reading.

1. The beaches

Maine has so many beautiful beaches! Blue water, nice sand, sunshine... what more could you want?

2. The sunsets

Because of Maine's unique coastline, you can still see sunsets over the water even though you're on the east coast!

3. Old Orchard

This is one of the most touristy areas of southern Maine. You have to go to the pier at least once while you're here.

4. Fireworks at Old Orchard

Every Thursday during the summer, you can check out a fireworks display at the Old Orchard pier!

5. Ice cream

This place is full of nice little ice cream shops, like the Dairy Stop in Saco and Fielder's Choice in Old Orchard.

Located in Saco, this neat little hiking trail leads you to a pretty cool waterfall! You can also find an abandoned bear cage here.

7. Becoming one with the moose

If you're lucky, you may see one without going too far north. It's just a Maine thing, I guess.

8. Lobstah

It is not lobstER, it is lobstAH. Everywhere you go you will find delicious lobster shacks.

9. Being a short drive from Acadia

This beautiful national park has everything; hiking mountains, rock climbing, beaches, and picnic areas.

10. Being a short drive from Bar Harbor

For the record, the name of this town is pronounced "Bah Hahbah" and it is filled with restaurants and shops and features some great water views!

11. Portland

This city has everything you could possibly want!

Be sure to catch a game and try a famous Sea Dog Biscuit!

15. Freeport

This whole town is dedicated to shopping. You're not a true Mainer until you have a picture with the giant Bean Boot.

16. Kennebunkport

This is where the Bush family spends time. Who knows? Maybe you'll get to see the former presidents.

17. The Great Maine Lumberjack Show

You seriously can't make this stuff up. It's so Maine.

18. Being a short drive from Mt. Katahdin

At over 5,000 feet tall, this is the highest mountain in Maine!

19. Lenny, the 1000 pound chocolate moose

You can find him at Len Libby Candy Shop in Scarborough. He should be one of the Seven Wonders of the World, in all honesty.

20. Did I mention the sunsets on the beaches?

So, why wouldn't you go to southern Maine during the summer? After all, it is the way life should be.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
