20 Questions I Have For The University Of North Alabama

Before I get started with this article, let me start by saying I absolutely love this school, this campus, and this town. Moving to Florence has been the best decision I've made in my life and I'm so grateful for this opportunity. But no matter how much I love UNA , I still have a few questions I'd like to figure out.

1. Why do we not have more parking?

Seriously, tear down Rice or Rivers and give us another parking deck or something.

2. Why block off potential parking spots for visitors when we have shuttle services?

We pay for both so why not actually use the shuttles and let us park?

3. Why did we have to lose WOW?

I know I'm not the only one upset about this. WOW was the best place on campus and it just got taken away like it was nothing.

4. Why does the SRC put "Out Of Order" signs on exercise machines and then take months to fix them?

Some of us actually want to lose the Freshman Fifteen...Kinda hard to do that if they're all broken.

5. WHERE IS PANDA EXPRESS?!

Come on now. You took away WOW, Pizza Hut, A&W, and the Chinese place we had, but you made up for it for promising a Moe's and Panda Express... Moe's is up, where's the other?

6. Why can't we pet Leo and Una?

Okay, this might just be me. Yes, I understand they're lions and all that, but if they can be chill during a whole football game, I'm sure they'd be okay being loved on by stressed out students.

7. Why do we have to give up our nice, homey dorms for the older, iffy dorms after our freshman year?

Mattielou and Olive honestly should be for upperclassmen. Sorry, freshies. You're just gonna have to settle for Rice or Rivers like we did.

8. Why can't all the stairs on campus be a valid excuse for being late to class?

I don't care how in shape you are, those stairs will kick your butt and will make you show up to class breathing like you're about to die.

9. Why is not being able to find a parking spot not a legitimate reason for missing class?

Lots of students plus lack of parking tends to become a problem. It's only syllabus week and I've already missed two classes because I couldn't find a place to park.

10. Why is the WiFi terrible even after being "fixed" multiple times?

I'm on season ten-- I mean, page ten of this research paper, I don't have time for the WiFi to be going out randomly.

11. Why so many fire alarms?

I understand that it's precautions and we need to be safe but seriously? Once every other month should cover it. And NOT AT 3AM.

12. Why is Portal always down?

Kinda need to check my email every now and then.

13. Speaking of emails, why do we need so many sent to us?

This has gotten better thanks to the UNA Digest and Clutter section, but there's still unnecessary emails.

14. Why can't we have more Step Shows?

Because let's be real, our Alphas are the best.

15. Why is the softball field so far away from campus?

I mean, we are National Champions...

16. Why don't we have more food options?

As much as I love Chick-Fil-A and Starbucks, they get old after a while.

17. Why do we not have a "Netflix Club"?

We all procrastinate and binge watch Netflix. Might as well watch an entire season of Shameless and Grey's Anatomy with a group of people. With sweatpants and blankets and snacks.

18. Why do the frats have houses but the sororities don't?

Seriously. The guys get their own houses for every frat while the girls are sharing dorms.

19. Why isn't it a legit rule/agreement that if a professor is more than 10 minutes late to a class, we can leave and be excused?

If I drag myself out of bed, you should too.

20. Why do UNA cops give so many tickets?

Mainly because of parking but we wouldn't have that problem if we had more places to park. I've paid more money in tickets than I have in tuition. (Okay, a bit of a stretch but you get the point.)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
