20 Questions I Have For People Who Like Math

Math, AKA Satan's worst punishment. We try our hardest to avoid it every day, but it somehow always pops up to load us with anxiety and embarrassment. We sit in math class and hope to the good Lord above that we don't get called on by the professor to answer a question where the answer is more than likely wrong. I've never been good with math in my 21 years of life and I'm convinced that I've been traumatized since grade school. I always assume that when my mom gave birth to me that I came out crying because I had early thoughts of algebra. To you people who "love" math, I have some questions for you and I need them answered now:

1. Do you really enjoy it or are you just somehow #blessed with the talent of learning it quickly, so you take advantage of that?

2. Do you keep the calculator app on your phone's home screen or can you do basic math in your head?

3. Do you love yourself?

4. What does it feel like to get an A or a B on a math exam?

5. Do you and the professor talk mad shit about the ones who have no idea what is going on while eating a scone, drinking diet green tea and watching "Good Will Hunting"?

6. Are you good at writing, too?

7. Do you actually calculate how much of a tip you are suppose to leave, or do you just leave $2.00 like the rest of us?

8. How long did it take you to complete the Minute Math worksheets we had in grade school?

9. How did you get above a 16 on the math section of the ACT?

10. Does the limit not exist, like Cady Heron says?

11. Is Kevin Gnapoor your life goals?

12. Do you do math stuff just for fun?

13. Are you involved in a cult?

14. Are there Math-Nazis just like there are Grammar-Nazis?

15. Do you crawl in your bed and cry if you can't complete an equation?

16. Do you use your fingers to count still?

17. Are you a human being?

18. Do you really think A,B,C is as easy as 1,2,3?

19. What does it feel like to actually like numbers?

20. What does it feel like to actually know how to do and use math IRL?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
