"I mean, at least you'll never go bald"
"You might want to start doing your hair now if we are going to leave in 2 hours"
"Does having all that hair hurt your neck?"
I have heard many comments like these throughout my life regarding my thick hair. Since my first day in this world I have had a full head of hair (sorry for giving you all the heartburn, mom) and while there are many great things about having thick hair, there is no denying that it also comes with its struggles. Take these for example:
1. You have to use at least 2 (heavy-duty) hair-ties if you want to put your hair up.
2. You have broken several brushes trying to comb your hair.
3. It takes more than an hour to straighten or curl your hair.
4. You use shampoo 10 times faster than conditioner.
5. You have tried horse shampoo before.6. Your hair eats bobby pins.
7. No one ever volunteers to do your hair because it takes too long.
8. You are worn out after putting your hair in a ponytail.
9. Your hair is still wet from showering when you wake up.
10. Getting your hair thinned out makes a small wig.
11. You are all too familiar with this.
12. And this — the crucial predicament.
13. Your hair clogs up the drain & the vacuum.
14. You leave a trail of hair wherever you go.
15. Your hair acts as a personal scarf and heater.
16. Forget trying to fit your hair in a hat. It's not gonna happen.
17. Having your hair up too long gives you a headache.
18. Bangs and short hairstyles are a no go for you.
19. Your braids are huge and heavy.
20. If you ever swam, your hair in a cap looked like this:
However despite the many challenges that come with thick hair, remember just a few things. We are pretty lucky we don't have to wash our hair every day and that we always have some natural volume. So if you do have thick hair, embrace it! It can definitely be a blessing in its own way.
