My TFI News

I love the Olympics. It's a time when the world comes together to watch amazing people do amazing things with the skills they have been waiting their whole lives to showcase. It's a time of unity, when the people of one nation stand united to root for their athletes.

But for some people, it can be a bit intimidating; it can be sort of a blow to the ego to know that you'll never amount to as much as these champion Olympians. You can't help but feel just a little... Average. While you're sitting on your plush couch with a soda in hand and Doritos in the other, these world-class athletes are competing with a level of skill you've only dreamed of having. Heck, the worst time or score at any event would wipe the floor with your very best.

Not me though. My life may be pretty ordinary, but I know I have plenty of gold medal moments that would leave the likes of Michael Phelps or Kerry Walsh-Jennings in the dust. If these 20 things were events in Rio 2016, I know I would bring home that number one spot every time.

1. Obtaining the perfect milk to cereal ratio at breakfast.

2. Drawing one eyeliner wing perfectly and then having to redo the other six times to obtain perfection.

3. Getting perfect zeros at the gas pump without using pre-pay.

4. Waiting until the last possible minute to do my laundry because I ran out of clean socks.

5. Running to the fridge and back to the couch before the commercial break is over.

6. Singing most of the lyrics right to any current Top 100 Billboard Hit.

7. Having enough pennies to pay with exact change at the drive through.

8. Fast forwarding through a commercial break on a pre-recorded show and stopping right when the show starts.

9. Calling in for delivery and not saying "um" once.

10. Correctly guessing someone's middle name on the first try.

11. Stubbing my toe while watering my spice garden and only crying for 20 minutes.

12. Going to Walmart, forgetting everything I intended to buy, and leaving with six items I don't need.

13. Keeping more than a 3 day Snap Streak with any one of my SnapChat friends.

14. Running out of conditioner at a different time than when I run out of shampoo.

15. Successfully remembering what day it is during the summer.

16. Tripping up the steps because I was texting.

17. Realizing there was no toilet paper before sitting down.

18. Following the directions perfectly making a cup of EasyMac.

19. Forgetting I let my dog outside and leaving him sit on the porch for half an hour instead of ten minutes.

20. Not using a GPS to go somewhere new and only getting lost twice.

Tokyo 2020 better watch out. How many of these events would bring you Olympic gold?

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
