Whenever I am looking for inspiration, I turn to movies. Movies, inspirational in their enigmatic cinematography, breathtaking scenic destinations, and jaw-dropping soundtracks.

Films have the ability to take you to another world, another era, or simply another city. I enjoy movies that make me question the very existence of routine life, movies that make me laugh or cry, and lastly, movies I can personally relate to. Here are 20 films that every 20-something should watch.

About Time

Anyone remotely interested in time travel and romance should watch "About Time." I cannot watch it without crying at the end; it is one of those movies that gives you butterflies and you wish there was a sequel.

Mr. Morgan's Last Love

So much truth in this film about the value of spending time with those that have experienced and seen life in a way that is completely foreign to you, and finding friends in the most unconventional places.

The Intern

Comical yet emotional, and so, sorelatable to anyone that has spend a considerable amount of time with those that are much much older than them.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

I watched this and finally made the decision to study abroad. It is, in every sense of the words, brilliant and incredible.

Eat Pray Love

"Eat Pray Love" is one of those movies that you can never get bored of watching, no matter how many times you watch it. It will always be exciting to see the streets of Italy, the temples of India, and the fields of Bali.

Julie and Julia

This is a hilarious take on a true story about a New York City foodie that aims to create every recipe in the cookbook written by a Parisian cook of a previous generation. Food and two of the most magical cities in the world; you cannot ask for more.

One Day

An emotional roller coaster about two friends who always reunite, every year for 20 years, for one day (July 15). Again, could not stop crying at this one.

To Kill a Mockingbird

I read the book in high school (just like almost everyone else) but ended up watching the movie in my own time. As someone that wants to pursue law, this movie taught me more than I had ever expected and instantly became one of my favorites.

Dead Poets Society

I cry during a lot of movies, but this one was entirely different. I enjoy movies that make me think deeper, and, like I said, make me question and wonder. This movie did that and so much more.

The Shining

I love horror movies (though only when I have full control of pausing and fast forwarding) and this classic is no exception. For anyone that enjoys thrillers, you must watch this at least once, if not over and over again.

Love Actually

I actually did not want to see this movie at first, only because I thought that it might be a stereotypical and cliched romantic comedy. It was anything but that. By the end, it had earned a spot as one of my favorites.

Notting Hill

I watched this movie with my mother and sister and fell in love with Hugh Grant's acting (and eyes). It is a simple movie about finding love in unconventional places.

Anna Karenina

One of my all time favorite movies. The costumes, elegance, romance, suspense, time period, and charm are all brilliant.

Albert Nobbs

I admit, I first watched this movie for Aaron Taylor Johnson. But minute after minute, I was enticed by the plot and the suspense of the mystery that is "Albert Nobbs." A true must-see for anyone that wants something different.

Nowhere Boy

For anyone that is a huge fan of the Beatles, you must watch this. It follows young John Lennon and the beginnings of his music career.

Nine Months

I watched this over the summer, on a night when I was incredibly bored. I was not expecting too much out of this movie, but like some of the others on this list, I got more than I had asked for. A fascinating movie about sacrifices and love.

Midnight in Paris

I watched this movie after I came back from Paris, and fell in love with the city even more. This movie is the true definition of nostalgia (one of my favorite words). I could not have asked for a movie that describes me more.

The Talented Mr. Ripley

1950s scenic Italy with its beautiful beaches and winding roads. What more could you ask for?

Like Crazy

I watched this movie way back in high school and it has stuck with me ever since. I have cried and laughed with this movie multiple times.

The Theory of Everything

Last but not least, this is my absolute favorite movie, and I only recently viewed it for the first time. I was reluctant to watch this film because I was so sure that I would be a bawling mess afterwards (which I was). I did not want something to tug at my heart strings even more; nevertheless, it did, and I have not looked back ever since. For every 20-something, I recommend you take a few hours out of your day or week and watch this. It is mind-blowingly refreshing.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
