You know that feeling you felt as a kid, waking up on Christmas morning before your parents, seeing snow on the ground outside, presents under the tree, and cookie crumbs on the counter? That's one of the best feelings ever: pure joy and excitement. I love that feeling. Now that I'm older, I find that feeling in other places, and stemming from different emotions -- usually pure peace. I spent a lot of my adolescence thinking the whole world was against me and that there was nothing good in it. For anyone feeling that way, here are 20 good things in this world. I hope you can appreciate them, as I do.

1. Hot coffee in the morning

The smell of coffee brewing, the warm cup in your hands -- it's so peaceful.

2. Rocking out in the car to your favorite song with your best friend

Music blaring, wind blowing through your hair, sunglasses and smiles on.

3. Finishing your homework well before it's due

That feeling of accomplishment is so great, to be honest.

4. Hot Chocolate on a cold winter's day

Warming up on the couch after being outside in the snow -- with marshmallows and whipped cream, of course.

5. The smell of spring flowers

When winter finally ends and flowers being to spring up, the scent is so relaxing and pleasant.

6. When your pet chooses you over your sibling

"I knew you loved me!"

7. Finishing a good book

Closing the back cover of the book and breathing out, thinking "That was a good book" feels so peaceful.

8. When a new book or TV show you're excited about is announced

"OH MY GOD THEY'RE WRITING A NEW BOOK?!"

9. Fresh popcorn at the movie theater

So warm and perfectly buttered and salted? Yes, please.

10. Jumping into a pool on a hot day

None of that slowly stepping in stuff, no. Taking a running start and doing a cannonball into the pool -- even if it's freezing -- is awesome.

11. Seeing an adorable fur baby (or real baby -- they're both cute)

"It's so cute. Oh my God, it's so cute. I want one."

12. A cold shower after sweating all day long

Cooling off after being sticky and disgusting all day? Finally.

13. Waking up fully rested

Sitting up in bed and not groaning because for once you feel perfectly fine when your alarm goes off.

14. Wearing warm clothes, or wrapping yourself up in a warm blanket fresh from the dryer

Smelling so clean, and feeling so, so warm.

15. A hot bath with candles, Epsom salts, and bubbles

Honestly there's nothing as relaxing as a good, hot bath.

16. Checking items off your long to-do list and feeling accomplished

Went to the gym? Check. Finished laundry? Check.

17. Drinking tea late at night

Warm cup in your hands, breathing in a deep breath, and feeling completely relaxed.

18. Getting a new haircut

Clean hair, no split ends, and feeling brand new? There's a reason girls cut their hair after a breakup.

19. Being completely, perfectly clean

Just showered or bathed, makeup off, face moisturized, wearing clean clothes, and sleeping in clean sheets? It's perfect.

20. Genuinely laughing at a joke or situation

No explanation needed.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
