College will teach you a lot, but I've found that I've learned more about myself than I have about anatomy or English.

20. Studying is actually important.

College is a wake-up call. If you coasted in high school (like I did) you better figure that ASAP.

19. High school isn't as important as you thought it was.

Every little piece of drama felt like it was Earth-shattering but in college you learn that drama isn't a big deal and it's much more fun to mind your own business.

18. The importance of time management.

It's so hard to juggle school work, friends, family, and work, so time management is KEY to a healthy life at college.

17. Embrace people that come from different backgrounds.

College is the perfect, and one of the only, places to meet people from all over. College is for learning everything you can about everyone you can, take advantage of this.

16. Your metabolism will slow down, beware.

It's not a bad thing, but you gotta watch what you eat because the freshman 15 is real.

15. For the love of God don't procrastinate on big papers.

Listen, I learned this the hard way. Start as soon as possible so you have time to revise!!!

14. Study outside when you can.

"Study" is a loose term. What I mean is: "Go outside and bring your notes with you and hope you absorb the information through osmosis."

13. Keep your door open during orientation week, your floormates can become your best friends.

I love my roommate to death, but I'm so happy we kept our door open during the first week of school. Most of my best friends are my "neighbors".

12. Pet every single dog you see.

They are few and far between, take advantage of them.

11. Go to events on campus.

Get involved on campus, whatever that means for you. I'm fortunate enough to go to a school that has things going on every weekend, and I'm so glad that we have things to get involved with.

10. Call your parents.

I miss my parents pretty much every second. My mom and I text every day. College made me realize that my parents are my best friends.

9. Your college friends will become your second family.

My friend group at college has quite literally become my second family. You have to come up with a new support system real quick. Grab the coolest people you can find and run with it.

8. You can hear everything through the walls.

I've been a witness to multiple break-ups, jam seshes, and some strange conversations. They didn't know it, but I was.

7. The showers are disgusting. It's okay, we're all uncomfortable.

Throw on the flip flops and speed shower. This is your life now.

6. The caf food is better than you think, but it's fun to complain about it.

Luther kids are lucky, but we sure like to complain. (Okay, it's really fun).

5. You and your friends will bicker, but the fighting never lasts.

Fights pop up fast and disappear just as quickly as they started (It's necessary for survival).

4. Cherish your alone time, it'll be few and far between.

Wow, college has taught me that I LOVE to be alone.

3. You really miss your dog.

This one's for you Hank, I miss you and your floppy ears.

2. You'll miss your mom and dad's cooking.

Currently drooling over homemade pizzas and orange chicken.

1. Going home is hard.

I love being home, but leaving this little campus and all my friends is going to be so hard.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
