20 Happy Things to Do Rather Than Being Sad

Times get hard, and I know that it is easy to slip back into bad habits, to not get out of bed all day, and to think that your life is over because of certain instances that you go through. I am here to tell you that you can get through absolutely anything. Any bad feeling, doubt, or fear that you have in your mind at the moment will disappear with time.

There have been many moments in my life where I have felt the same exact way you have felt, and I also thought that there was no way I could ever get through certain parts of my life. However, with help from my friends, my family, and my Netflix account, I learned how to get by when everything seemed like it was going against me.

The following is a list I made, filled with simple tasks that you can do any day to make things a little better. Whether you do one thing on the list or all 20, I hope it brings you the happiness you deserve.

1. Watch Stranger Things on Netflix.

2. Get the $5 Cravings Box at Taco Bell.

3. Go to church, and stay after and talk to the people around you. Make new friends.

4. Read a good book, and then watch the movie adaptation (if there is one). If there isn't, try to figure out who would play each character in the movie adaptation.

5. Get a snowball (even if it's cold outside).

6. Sing in the shower.

7. Take a bubble bath, or better yet, get a bath bomb at LUSH and treat yourself.

8. Go on a drive.

9. Make a really good playlist.

10. Burn the playlist you made to a CD and share it with someone.

11. Watch your favorite movie from when you were a kid.

12. Get a blank canvas, get some paint and brushes, and see where your mind takes you.

13. Get a planner, write in all of the special things that will happen this year in bright colors.

14. FaceTime your best friend.

15. Watch a Lifetime movie, one with a ridiculous plot and a really low budget (which is most of them).

16. Go to Goodwill or Salvation Army with $10, and see how many cool things you can get.

17. Go to the store and get your favorite candy.

18. Sit in Starbucks, get your favorite thing on the menu, and just watch the people around you. Think about how many people you see every day, how crazy their lives must be, and remember that you aren't alone.

19. Print out your favorite pictures and hang them around your room. Write down memories on the backs of them, so when you eventually take them down, you have tons of stories to read.

20. Get out a piece of paper, write down three nice things about yourself. If you can't at the moment, leave the paper on your desk until it's filled with positive things that only you can claim.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
