Throughout the past few years, we’ve seen many of our classic favorites coming back to the big screens. Here is a list of 20 films and movies that have made a comeback.
1. Tarzan
"Tarzan" has been remade many times before into many different TV series and movies, and the latest movie adaption just hit theaters. It stars Alexander Skarsgard as Tarzan and Margot Robbie as Jane. The movie has gotten mixed reviews from critics and has a 36% Rotten Tomatoes score. Critic David Edelstein said it “plays as if a dog ate part of the script,” while critic Britton Peele states, “it doesn’t reinvent the vine, but 'The Legend of Tarzan' swings its way into being one of the better on-screen adaptations of the classic character.” I guess you’ll have to see it for yourself.
2. Pokémon (GO!)
Though it is not coming back as a movie, Pokémon has had several films along with an anime series throughout the years. Pokémon was at its high in 1998 and has risen and fallen the years after but its back, and this time it’s an app. The new app Pokémon GO! has become a huge hit. It has gotten a little under 21 million daily active users in the United States (Survey Monkey). It’s all anyone is talking about!
3. Independence Day
20 years after the 1996 film released, we got the sequel, "Independence Day: Resurgence." The movie picks up 20 years after the last movie starring Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum and William Fichtner to name a few. The movie has a score of 32% on Rotten Tomatoes, getting praise for its unbelievable visuals, but most critics state it lacked a great plot. Critic Colin Covert called it a “dull, brainless sequel.”
4. Ghostbusters
Everyone has seen or at least heard of the 1984 film "Ghostbusters" which was a big hit and was even voted by IGN’s as the greatest comedy ever. The new reboot, released this past Friday, has a lot to live up to. The new film stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones as the Ghostbusters. It has gotten many different reviews and a 73% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics believe it as a great comedy, but pales in comparison to the original. Others, however, feel it is a big flop. Critic Tony Hicks stated, “This reboot doesn’t deserve its name.”
5. Beauty and the Beast
This classic fairy tale has had its fair share of adaptations from a few TV series to many different movies. The new movie, set to release in March of 2017, is a live-action remake of the famous 1991 Disney film. The film will star Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the beast. Disney has made other live-action remakes recently including "Cinderella," "The Jungle Book," "Maleficent" and "Alice in Wonderland."
6. Finding Nemo (Dory)
This classic Disney Pixar movie came out in 2003 and 13 years later we got the sequel, "Finding Dory." The movie has a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes and critics say it “adds another entertaining chapter to its predecessor’s classic story.” The movie has been a huge hit and is still being shown in theaters four weeks after its initial release.
7. Ice Age
The Ice Age franchise started in 2002 with the first movie's release, and it has since made 4 other movies, with the latest one set to release this Friday. "Ice Age: Collision Course" has already gotten terrible reviews from critics, many claiming that the franchise needs to accept that its time is over. It has a 18% score on Rotten Tomatoes thus far.
8. Jumanji
The movie was originally released in 1995 and though it received poor reviews from critics, it has easily become a classic. The new remake of the movie is set to release in the summer of 2017. The cast consists of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black.
9. The Jungle Book
There have been many different adaptations of The Jungle Book and the latest one was a live-action remake of Disney’s animated movie. It came out earlier this year and has a score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, critics claiming it, “is the rare remake that actually improves upon its predecessors.” You can say this remake was a definite success.
10. Full(er) House
The classic TV series "Full House" had its first episode in 1987 and was on screen until 1995. It is a well-loved classic and in February of 2016, Netflix came out with the sequel "Fuller House." Critics gave the new series a score of 33% on Rotten Tomatoes but it seems audiences loved it more giving it a 74% score. The series was renewed for a second season and started production in May of 2016.

11. The Powerpuff Girls
First premiered in 1998 and lasted until 2005. It recently came back earlier this year with new episodes.
12. Jurassic Park (World)
The Jurassic Park trilogy launched with the first movie's release in 1993 instantly becoming a classic. The new addition to the franchise, Jurassic World, came out last year in 2015 and was a huge success.
13. Boy (Girl) Meets World
This well-loved sitcom premiered in 1993 and had its final episode in 2000. 14 years later, Disney channel gave the fans the sequel "Girl Meets World," which was a great success.
14. Zoolander
The first "Zoolander" film came out in 2001 and 15 years later the sequel came out, though it didn’t do as good as the first one.
15. Point Break
The classic movie Point Break came out in 1991 and was well received by audiences, but the 2015 remake wasn’t. The remake did significantly worse than the original and even received a low score of 9% on Rotten Tomatoes.
16. My Big Fat Greek Wedding
The well-loved romantic comedy was originally released in 2002 and the well anticipated sequel was released in 2016, though it didn’t quite meet its hype and did worse than the original.
17. Dumb and Dumber To
The comedy classic "Dumb and Dumber" came out in 1994 and was well received, but the same can’t be said about its sequel. "Dumb and Dumber To" came out in 2015 and was badly put down by critics.
18. Barbershop
The hilarious comedy was released in 2002, gaining great reviews, and two years later, came out with a sequel. "Barbershop: The Next Cut," the third movie of the franchise, came out in 2016 and received better reviews than the first.
19. Grease (Live)
The 1978 classic that is loved by so many had a sequel made in 1982 but it ended up flopping. "The Grease: Live" musical came out in 2016 and was a hit. It received great praise, which is rare for adaptations.
20. Poltergeist
The original classic horror film was released in 1982 and four years later had a sequel, as well as one more movie come out to complete the trilogy. In 2015, the original film was remade, but it was as well liked as the original.
