20 Facts About Me
Annariah Thomas

In honor of my 20th birthday that is on May 25th (and to give you a bit more information about me) here is a list of 20 facts about myself!

  1. I am the oldest of twelve children! Of my eleven siblings, I have four brothers plus another on the way, and five sisters (3 by blood, one “adopted”, and one “step”).

  2. I am currently taking a small break from college, but am an Early Childhood Education major. I plan to become a third grade teacher once I obtain my bachelor’s degree. From there I have high hopes of getting my master’s degree in education (undecided 100%) or another major in order to become a principal in a high school.

  3. I graduated high school in 2015. My freshman and sophomore years I went to high school in my home town and then my junior and senior years I attended high school two hours away (I have a split family and moved in with my father at the end of my sophomore year).

  4. My absolute favorite color is purple. I love the colors pink and teal as well, but I always always pick purple over anything.

  5. My parents are both average in height but I am shorter. I am 5 feet and (barely) 3 inches. I’m one of the shortest people in my family!

  6. My favorite animals are elephants. I think that they are such majestic and beautiful creatures. One of my dreams is to volunteer on an elephant farm where they rescue and take care of elephants. I would also love to visit Thailand and see elephants in their natural habitat and volunteer to help them there as well.

  7. My zodiac sign is Gemini. I’m not really one to “listen to the stars” or anything like that. I find it all extremely interesting but it isn’t really my thing. Some of the readings and such have proven to be true for me though, I think that is why I like it all.

  8. I have a bunch of favorite movies. On this list you can find just about any and every Disney movie ever, Dirty Dancing, Grease, Top Gun, Secondhand Lion, and A Walk To Remember.

  9. I am a makeup junkie! I love to try new looks, roam the aisles of Sephora and Ulta, online shop, collect palettes, and watch numerous youtube tutorial and makeup artist videos. I have a huge list of favorites that I cannot wait to add to my makeup collection.

  10. I have three best friends. My boyfriend, Michael, being the first and my very best friend. Cait and Emily are my other two best friends. I am so thankful to have such great people in my life that love to do the same things as me.

  11. My favorite holiday is Christmas! I love the holly jolly spirit of it all. Ironically though, I do not like snow, ice, and cold weather. My favorite season is spring and summer. I love sunshine and warm weather.

  12. I am very musically inclined and I can play multiple instruments. In high school I was involved in concert band, marching band, and pep band. As well as being instrumental, I am also very vocal. In high school I was apart of multiple choirs and had many solo opportunities. I also used my vocal talents to praise at church where I was in the church choir and had many solos as well.

  13. I love to relax and watch Netflix or other movies and TV shows. My favorite TV series are Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, Law and Order SVU, and House Hunters.

  14. I have a few allergies, the most crazy being to caterpillars! I’ve always wondered if that makes me allergic to butterflies too but I’ve never had any issues or run-ins with them to find out.

  15. I have two tattoos, an elephant and the word ‘believe’ both on my thigh. I have plans to get more tattoos in the future. I also have seven piercings!

  16. I have a few hobbies. Reading, napping, snacking, swimming, and sunbathing are all some of my hobbies.

  17. Bad habits are very common for everyone. My biggest bad habit is that I bite my nails and struggle to overcome it but I’m working on it.

  18. I am a very outgoing and fun person but I am also very sensitive and emotional. I try to hide my emotions as best as I can so they can’t be used against me.

  19. I have a lucky number. My lucky number is eight. I don’t know how it came about or how I picked it but as long as I can remember I have always favored that number and considered it my lucky number.

  20. I am originally from Ohio but I just moved to Indiana at the beginning of the year!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
