20 Eternal Struggles Of Growing Up With Strict Parents

For those of you who grew up in a household where you lived in constant fear of having to ask your parents whether you could go to the movies with your best friends or tag along with your friends to your school's football games, then this is the list for you. Growing up with strict parents is the worst, but if you think about it now, it prepared you for the real world. You're probably more aware of your surroundings now, you probably respect not only yourself, but also your peers and you probably actually act just like your parents. Or hey, maybe you decided to rebel against your parents once you hit college. (I may have. Sorry mom and dad. I'm not crazy now.) Here are 20 struggles of growing up with strict parents:

1. Being scared when your friends change plans because you have to give your parents two business days.

2. When your parents call you, you are immediately terrified because you think you did something wrong.

3. Your friends have to meet your parents so they will allow you to hang out with them. (This also goes with meeting a boyfriend.)

4. Your parents watch your every move so they know you're not in trouble.

5. Sleepovers only ever happen when the person's parents are there.

6. When people were allowed to have their boyfriend or girlfriend over at their house you were like...

7. Attend a travel formal? Yeah, no.

8. Spring break with your friends? Only if parents will be there and it's not PCB.

9. Asking a favor with "I know you'll probably say no, but..." just so your parents will pity you.

10. You have to choose whether to go out Friday or Saturday night, because you know you can't go out both nights.

11. Still having a curfew once you're in college.

12. Rehearsing in your head how you're going to ask your parents to let you go hang out with your friends.

13. When your friends say, "Just sneak out." I'd rather stay in than be killed.

14. The 20-question game: "Where are you going? Who's going to be there? Are there adults? Let me talk to the parents."

15. Waiting until your parents are in a good mood to ask to do anything.

16. When you bomb an exam and tell your parents that "everyone failed," and their response is, "I don't care about everyone else. I only care about you."

17. If you miss one phone call or text message, your parents immediately assume you're lying somewhere dead.

18. Your friends never understood why you couldn't go out. They would say, "Ask why" and "Ask them again."

19. You told your friends you couldn't go out, even though you never asked your parents in the first place.

20. Lastly, you may have wanted to disown your parents at the time, but deep down, you cherish them for everything they have done for you.
