Summertime is full of friends, parties, road trips, and relaxing. Although you may like the top forty hits, it does not satisfy what makes the perfect summer playlist. So while you have been going on road trips, hanging at the beach with friends, or simply relaxing indoors to avoid the heat, I have compiled a list of twenty bands that are perfect for your playlist. So without further adieu, 20 bands for your summer playlist from me to you.

1. Walk the Moon

With popular hits such as "Anna Sun" and "Shut Up and Dance," Walk the Moon kicks it old school in a modern way. Upbeat tunes such as "Shiver Shiver" and "Up 2 U" give this band the title of energetic and entertaining. Walk the Moon is guaranteed to keep your summer as lively as their music.

2. Magic Man

This Boston based band will get you on your feet and dancing in no time. Magic Man plays a rare role in today's music industry; providing a spectacular balance between music and lyrical connectivity. With songs such as "Out of Mind" and "Chicagoland," Magic Man is known for their sprightly tunes. Their synth pop masterpieces are perfect for parties, days at the beach, and long road trips.

3. Grouplove

Grouplove is known for their song, "Tongue Tied," that danced on the Billboard Charts for sixteen weeks in 2012. With an unmistakable sound, Grouplove offers their love for music in each note of every song. Their buoyant tunes are great for late night bonfires and dancing with friends.

4. Young the Giant

If you've been to an indie concert chances are "My Body" by Young the Giant has played before the show. Other hits such as "Cough Syrup" and "Something to Believe In" are sure to make a positive impression on your summer nights. Young the Giant is perfect for midnight drives and stargazing.

5. The Griswolds

For those restless nights with a couple pals The Griswolds is a must. Tunes such as "Be Impressive" and "If You Wanna Stay" will have you obnoxiously singing along for hours. I recommend The Griswolds for all summer occasions.

6. Arctic Monkeys

If you're feeling angsty the Arctic Monkeys are perfect for you. Their soothing, 'bad boy' jams will keep you intrigued. Whether you're hanging out with friends or having a night to yourself songs like "Do I Wanna Know" and "No. 1 Party Anthem" will keep the night going.

7. The 1975

The lead singer, Matty Healy, isn't the only thing hot about this band. Jams like "The Sound" and "Heart Out" are full of beautiful lyrics and lively beats. The 1975 is ideal for any summer get together.

8. St. Lucia

St. Lucia's beats are guaranteed to put a smile on your face and get your foot tapping. "Dancing on Glass" and "Always" are great tunes to bop to. If you're in a dancing mood this should be your go to band.

9. WATERS

This band will rock your socks off. "Got to My Head" and "Moms & Dads" are energetic and fun for summer. WATERS often flies under the radar of many rock fans, but their distinct sound and memorable hooks are worth having on repeat all summer.

10. MisterWives

You may remember their song "Vagabond" that was used as the theme song in MTV's 'Finding Carter.' Other catchy songs such as "Our Own House" and "Not Your Way" are positive to make your summer playlist one to remember.

11. Passion Pit

If you've dipped your toes into the indie music scene you have most certainly heard of Passion Pit. Their funky beats full of positive vibes deserve to be on any summer playlist. You will find tunes such as "Take a Walk" and "Lifted Up" easily get stuck in your head. Passion Pit is perfect for road trips and days at the lake with friends.

12. The Mowgli's

The Mowgli's alternative rock tunes like "Bad Dream" and "Kids in Love" will keep you feeling young and energetic. I recommend The Mowgli's for long nights with friends and midnight drives.

13. The Lumineers

Their song "Ho Hey" spent ten weeks on the Billboard Charts in 2012. Their acoustic sound is calming and catchy. Songs such as "Ophelia" and "Dead Sea" are perfect for summer bonfires.

14. Cold War Kids

The Cold War Kids, founded in California, have made a name for themselves in the Indie music scene. Jams like "First" and "Hot Coals" are perfect for any summer occasion.

15. Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club, from Ireland, deliver listeners beautiful lyrics with intriguing beats. Their music is perfect for a night in on a date with your significant other.

16. The Neighbourhood

If you like the Arctic Monkeys and The 1975 you will love The Neighbourhood. Their edgy tunes such as "R.I.P. 2 My Youth" and "Afraid" will be on repeat for the rest of the summer.

17. Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend should already be on your radar, but if not now is the time to get them on your summer playlist. Songs like "Unbelievers" and "Diane Young" are fun to listen to and you'll probably find your foot tapping along to their beats. Vampire Weekend is perfect for summer road trips!

18. Panama Wedding

Panama Wedding, from New York City, is known for their uplifting tunes that can make just about anyone want to dance. "Infinite High" and "Uma" will have you singing along in no time. Panama Wedding is perfect for nights out with friends.

19. The Killers

Would a summer playlist really be complete without The Killers? "When You Were Young" and "Mr. Brightside" are perfect for any and all summer occasions.

20. BØRNS

BØRNS can be easily identified from the song "Electric Love" that was featured in a few commercials on television. Other songs such as "10,000 Emerald Pools" and "Dug My Heart" make the authentic sound unforgettable. BØRNS is perfect for a night out with friends and road trips.

You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
