20 Things Athletes Think To Themselves During A Fitness Test

All athletes know the struggle of running fitness tests on a weekly basis. It's the most dreaded part of the week, but one of the most important parts of an athlete's performance. Throughout the test, we are constantly talking to ourselves and pushing ourselves to go at least one more level. Here's some of our thoughts during these 20 minutes of torture:

1. "Only 20 minutes. 20 levels. You can do this."

2. "Okay this isn't so bad."

3. "What level are we on?"

4. "I think I'm going into cardiac arrest."

5. "Just take it one level at a time."

6. "How are some of these people running so fast?!"

7. "I deserve a cookie after running this."

8. "I think I'm going to poop my pants."

9. "Why did I play a sport that involves running?"

10. "I refuse to be the first person to drop out."

11. "But then again--"

12. "Level 15. Good work. Keep pushing. You're almost there."

13. "Okay but seriously, I think I'm going to poop."

14. "Just one more level. You can do at least one more level."

15. "Pretty sure my lungs just popped out of my chest."

16. "So when I'm done, do I get water or do I go to the bathroom?"

17. "Definitely the bathroom."

18. "Oh praise Jesus, I'm done. I did it. I'm alive."

19. "That was torture--but I feel invincible."

20. "Only 6 more days until you have to run it all over again--kill me."

Especially after starting college and having the stress and anxiety of tests, assignments, and just figuring out my future, the gym at my school has definitely been a place of relief for me and I have numerous reasons of why everyone should push themselves to get to the gym when they can.

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.
