Tulane University is a magical place. Anyone who walks on our beautiful campus immediately can attest to this. In honor of the new class of 2020 entering Tulane this year, here are 20 magical things that are going to happen during your time there:
1. Careening back to campus on a street car late at night with all your friends.
This is even better when said streetcar ride is after the Saints win!
2. Taking a bestie picture with the iconic Tulane sign.
Usually this happens while wearing fancy outfits.
3. Somehow always ending up at an '80s-themed party every year.
It is always a good idea to pack some leg warmers, hoop earrings, and scrunchies in your college luggage.
4. Cuddling with your roommate.
Everyone needs a roommate cuddle every once in awhile.
5. Actually, cuddling with all your neighbors and roommates at the same time.
Everyone at Tulane is really awesome and cuddle-worthy.
6. Getting to wear raincoats EVERYWHERE.
Those crazy New Orleans rain storms will not stop us!
7. Standing all day in the mud at Jazz Fest and still enjoying yourself.
Soft shell crab po' boys, strawberry lemonade, Mardi Gras Indians, and Fleetwood Mac? I would stand in the mud any day for that!
8. Going on an impromptu adventure to Ponchatoula for the Strawberry festival.
If you are lucky, your friends will be cool enough to drive you all the way there in a convertible with the top down.
9. Having a dinner party with your friends who live off campus.
There is definitely not enough room in your dorm for this.
10. Dancing with second line at a festival for sandwiches, aka Po’ Boy Fest.
This Oak Street festival is usually around Thanksgiving and is always full of surprises!
11. Partaking in a giant community dance party in the street at Mardi Gras.
By the way, only in New Orleans would we decorate a construction site with Mardi Gras colors.
12. Bringing mimosas with friends to a 10K race.
The Crescent City Classic is a beautiful race where you can walk the whole way and even bring your own beverages. Yum!
13. Dressing up as Where’s Waldo collectively with your rowing team for Halloween and renting a party bus to take you all to Frenchman street.
Always rent the party bus.
14. Going downtown after the Saints win the Super Bowl and you almost get squished to death by the ensuing crowd and city-wide party.
Worth it.
15. Seeing Rocky Horror Picture Show Live on campus at McAlister Auditorium.
They also play Oscar-winning movies and other fun films at the Auditorium.
16. Experiencing “Hurrication” by having to evacuate upstate for a week.
It is kind of scary to be evacuated, but also kind of awesome to have a week off of school to go hiking with friends!
17. Going on a Haunted History Tour downtown during Christmas and Hanukkah time.
Fun fact: We visited the LaLaurie house, which was the inspiration for American Horror Story: Coven.
18. Going to a geek-themed Mardi Gras parade presented by the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus.
Unicorns are only the beginning; little kids dressed as X-Wings, men marching in Storm Trooper suits, Mardi Gras-themed versions of Darth Vader and many other sci-fi and fantasy friends are always present.
19. Getting to graduate at the Mercedez-Benz Superdome.
We even had the pleasure of getting the Dalai Lama as our keynote speaker in 2013.
20. Having the best friends anyone could ever ask for.
This picture shows some of the best friends I made at Tulane, but there are so many other Tulane besties I could include here too. Thank you to all of the people in my life who made going to Tulane amazing!
