This is my second installment in the 1V1 series. The last time, I checked out 2 airline brands. Today, I investigate into 2 very similar fast food chains. McDonald's has had a richer history of success than Wendy's, but in previous years it seems like Wendy's has pulled the gap. I have created a few categories in which these fast food chains will square off in.
1. Nuggets
McDonald's nuggets are known for the distinctive taste they have. Nothing quite tastes like a McNugget. They are never really consistent in crispiness though. Sometimes you get nuggets that taste very crispy and fresh, while other times it is a soggy and not so crunchy McNugget. Another thing McNuggets often do is leave a greasy layer in your mouth. Comparing to Wendy's chicken nuggets, they seemed to be consistently crispy and warm in the center. The crumbs on the outside make it taste like it is from an actual chicken breast.
WINNER - Wendy's
2. Burgers
Wendy's has the signature square patty, while McDonald's is known for sesame seeds on the bun. The burger I had from Wendy's seemed to have an excessive amount of red onions. They also have an extremely larger amount of ketchup and mayo on them. The good thing about many of McDonald's burgers is that they put them in a tiny box, meaning they will not get smashed. No mayo on these burgers, but an appropriate amount of ketchup, white onions, mustard, and cheese. The burger patty itself has a great taste, though not as juicy as the Wendy's burger.
WINNER - McDonald's
3. French Fries
McDonald's french fries are known for how small they are. Wendy's fries are bigger in size, but also more expensive. McDonald's fries are much more salty which may come as a good or bad thing to you. Ironically, even though the salty flavor is so much stronger, if you look up the nutritional value you will find that Wendy's fries have MORE salt in them. Another food chain, Burger King, may have better fries than both of these, but BK is not in this battle.
WINNER - McDonald's
4. Service/Accuracy
A big part of fast food chains is often how accurate the order is, so I put them to the test. I went to each chain 3 times. Wendy's never messed up my order once. McDonald's put pickles on the burger that I requested to not have pickles. One of the other times I requested 2 different kinds of sauce, I only got one.
WINNER - Wendy's
Overall, it is a draw. I know it sucks, but it's simply very difficult to decide. They each have unique things about them. Maybe the next time I do 1V1 there will be a clear winner.
