Nickelodeon has decided to bring back the 90s. From 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., TeenNick will have a constant block of TV shows and cartoons that are staples of the 90s childhood aesthetic many of us still try to channel. The main reason why we still love these shows today is because we are nostalgic, as we should be, but the jokes are what will hook this time, because we are finally old enough to understand.
In honor of the new TV channel, I compiled a list of shows from Nickelodeon that we should expect to see again!
1. "Kenan and Kel"
I loved orange soda, because Kel loved orange soda.
The first episode of "Kenan and Kel" aired on July 15,1996. Recently, the two actors reunited for a recreation of Good Burger, this time adding Jimmy Fallon into the mix. Watch it here.
2. "Legends of The Hidden Temple"
The first episode aired September 11, 1993. Unfortunately, the show only ran for two years.
3. "Double Dare: 2000"
This show aired in January-November of 2000.
4. "Figure It Out"
Apparently, "Figure It Out" has still been around; check out this clip with Liz Gillies in 2012. It started in 1997.
5. "Slime Time Live"
"Slime Time Live" aired from 2000-2003.
Wait, you got slimed when you won too?
6. "Ren & Stimpy"
Aired 1991-1995
"Ren & Stimpy" is a questionable children's show. A few years after the cancellation, TNN reached out to the creator. They wanted to create a version specifically for male audiences. It was called, "Ren & Stimpy, Adult Party Cartoon."
7. "Ahhh Real Monsters"
1994-1997
8. "Rocket Power"
1999-2002
9. "Rocko's Modern Life"
1993 - 1996
"Rocko's Modern Life" is another show that was a little edgy for kids ...
10. "CatDog"
"CatDog" aired from 1998-2005.
11. "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"
The first episode aired on Halloween of 1991. It was one of the longer-running series, ending on June 11, 2001.
I'm pretty sure the intro was creepier than the actual show.
12. "As Told By Ginger"
Aired from October 2000- November 2006
It's possible to find most of these shows, if not all, online. We've had over a decade to wait for them all to be available to stream - even if it means someone filmed their TV screen and put it on YouTube. Having a channel, however, with eight straight hours every night dedicated to these 90s hits, might remind us of a few we forgot.
Will it be a success? Which show are you most excited to watch, and do you think you'll still enjoy it?
