Fairfield, CT: It is one of the greatest and most fun places to grow up. Here are a few things that we all know to be true!
1. Sledding on Sturges Hill
The mornings that we woke up to a snow day declared on News 12 were probably the best mornings of our life. Our frozen spoon and inside out pajamas worked! After a cup of hot chocolate, we'd flock to Sturges Hill for a full day of sledding.
2. Alive at Five
The commuters riding the train on Thursday afternoons must have hated us. Possibly every high schooler would pregame on the way to the summer concerts to hang out in downtown Stamford.
3. Sasco Beach
Sasco and chill?
4. Donut Inn
Any traffic that we might have caused Monday through Friday mornings before school, we now apologize. Those six hour school days wouldn't have been doable without a medium french vanilla iced coffee.
5. The Dogwood Festival
It was the true mark of the beginning of the Summer.
6. Ludlowe & Warde rivalry
The football games, the lacrosse games, the soccer games and blue versus red: I think the only thing we agreed on was our conjoined state hockey championships.
7. Relay for Life
It was the first sleepover we've ever had with boys and girls. This night in June always called for a full day of sleep that next day, but it was always worth it.
8. Neon Nights
Fifth grade wouldn't have been the same without the Saturday night dances. We'd all get ready together listening to Sean Paul's "Temperature" and Soulja Boy's "Crank That." The night was only complete if you hugged a boy.
9. Sullivan Field & Pop Warner
August and September in elementary school were always accounted for with daily practices in the heat. Whether you were a cheerleader or a football player, Sullivan Field was the place to be.
10. Shopping in Westport
Fairfield's downtown area was decent, but if you wanted to actually shop, you'd jump in the car with your friends for a quick stop to Westport.
11. The Tree Lighting
Every December, the town's green was filled with people holding hot chocolate and looking for Santa. The big tree was lit with a countdown from 10, and this meant Christmas was so close.
12. Third Grade Soccer Tryouts
The real test of athleticism was travel soccer tryouts in third grade. Did you stick with rec soccer? Or did you trade your reversible jersey for a red v-neck with your name on the back?
13. Memorial Day Parade
Memorial Day was better than the July 4 just based on the parade alone. This was the first place we were allowed to walk around without our parents. Some of our friends would march in the parade with their baseball team or their band, which was just as cool.
14. July 4 Fireworks
The water was packed with boat traffic, and Jennings and Sasco were always filled with people.
15. Rec Camp
Summers were spent with the coolest counselors and your friends from school going to Lake Compounce or the beach for field trips.
16. Appreciating the LIS
We love the Long Island Sound, and that's all.
17. Good food
Centro's, Pine Creek Deli, Molto, Quatro, Saugatuck Sweets and Country Cow: You name it, we eat it.
18. A Quick Train Ride into the City
We know the hour and 15 minute route like the back of our hands at this point.
19. Concerts at Harbor Yard (Webster Bank) in Bridgeport
We've all been there for something, and the convenience is key.
