19 Thoughts When Moving Into My First Apartment
renterst.com

I recently moved into my first apartment shortly before my second year of college. I lived in the dorms at school for my freshman year, which kind of sucked, and I of course lived with my family for my entire life before that. As my family helped me move into the apartment, and for the first week after the initial move-in, these are some of my thoughts on my new living situation.

1. Finally, I'm out of my parents's houses and done with dorm rooms and free to live my life unsupervised. All I have to do is move all this stuff into the apartment.

2. Two flights of stairs isn't a lot.

3. I have a lot more stuff than I thought.

4. Do I really need all this stuff? Is it worth sweating this much carrying it up these stairs?

5. Ok, now that it's all in the apartment, where is it going to go?

6. I need more stuff to make this place cuter.

7. Wow, I'm so ready to be on my own.

8. I have to make sure I'm not too loud, I don't want to disturb any of my neighbors.

9. I really hope I never have to speak to any of my neighbors.

10. I have no food but at least everything looks cute.

11. The grocery store is literally the worst I'd rather starve.

12. Who's gonna take my trash? What do normal people do with all their trash when they don't have someone to pick it up?

13. Better not leave all these lights on I don't want a crazy electric bill. Maybe I should turn off the AC... Wow, I am now an adult.

14. Yes, I get to choose what's for dinner and when to eat it.

15. Eating without my family is kinda boring.

16. It's really quiet and kinda creepy at night around here, better make sure the door is locked 30 times before bed.

17. I miss my family.

18. This will be so much better when my roommate gets here.

19. I love the apartment life.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.
