Growing up, writing my Christmas list was one of the most exciting parts about my childhood. I would get out my favorite pen and paper and write down a list of a few things I wanted to appear under my Christmas tree come Dec. 25. Christmas morning was full of smiles and excitement as my siblings and I would tear through wrapping paper to see what gifts Santa had left under our Christmas tree. As I got older, my list consisted of more electronics and clothes than toys and doll houses. But now, there are a few things I want for Christmas that cannot be wrapped up in a box.
1. A 4.0 GPA
Everybody wants a 4.0. If you don't, you're probably lying. But, we all know that even with spending long hours studying, that perfect 4.0 isn't that easy to come by. So Santa, please deliver me an above average transcript this year.
2. The Motivation to Workout
It's hard finding time in college to keep a steady workout regime when you have so many other things to do. Like taking naps. So this year I want the gift of motivation to get myself to the gym.
3. An Impeccable Sense of Humor
I love to laugh and I love to make other people laugh, but what I want this year is to make everybody laugh. A sense of humor can get you far and remains on my Christmas list.
4. Money
Whether it come from winning the lottery or stumbling upon a few hundred dollar bills, this Christmas, I want the money to finance my college life. Money may not be the most important thing, but it sure helps.
5. Recognition
I just want people to know who I am for something good that I've done. For some kind of work, to be recognized by many people is what is on my list this year.
6. A Private Jet
I don't know about you, but I have a huge list of places I want to travel. However, the funds to do so aren't that great. A private jet would take me to all my desired destinations.
7. Endless Time Hanging Out With Home Friends
My friends from home are the kids I grew up with. Each break is a little reunion and we try to spend as much time together. But, we all have different breaks and some of us moved away so getting everybody together is hard. This year, I want to be able to spend as much time with the people who made me who I am today.
8. Unlimited Concert Tickets
If there's one thing I love more than anything, it's going to concerts. For Christmas, I want a huge stack of concert tickets to see everyone and anyone that I want this year. (Yes, even you, Justin Bieber.)
9. To Make My Parents Proud
My parents do everything for me and for Christmas this year, I want to make them proud. I want them to know that their support (financially and emotionally) isn't going to waste.
10. Happiness
It's such a simple thing, but it's so important. There is so much sadness and pain in the world that complete happiness should be at the top of everybody's Christmas list this year.
And now onto the more serious things:
11. Equality
Each day, someone is faced with an injustice. Whether it be because of their race, religion or gender, people are suffering and being judged for something they cannot change.
12. A Solution to the Nation's Gun Problem
The amount of mass murders occurring in America is sickening. There is no one solution to this issue right now, but it is nice to think that some day there might be.
13. A Plan for ISIS
I don't know about you, but ISIS scares the crap out of me. All I want for Christmas is the safety of everyone worldwide.
14. An End to World Hunger
Something that doesn't cross most of our minds is the thought of so many across the world. Where we come home to a full fridge and still have "nothing to eat" there are millions of people who go starving every day.
15. A Perfected Education System
It's no secret that this nation's education system has its flaws. I want every child to have equal access to a great education and the support and resources to learn at their greatest potential.
16. A Home for Everybody
There are so many people in this world who don't have a home to go to this holiday season. They don't have a tree to open presents under, let alone a roof to sleep under. This season, I'm asking for everyone to have a place to call home.
17. Access to Clean Water
Another thing we take for granted every day. It's hard to imagine what it is like to not have clean running water to drink or shower in, but it's a problem that so many struggle with every day.
18. A Cure for Cancer
Everybody knows someone who has been affected by cancer. It is a sickness that causes a great deal of pain physically and emotionally to so many. A cure for cancer would truly be a miracle every one could appreciate.
19. World Peace
Something always talked about during the Christmas season, but never truly addressed. I guess this is just something that seems so far fetched, nobody knows how to accomplish it. There are things that everybody can relate to in this world. We just have to find that and share it with everyone.
So this may not have been the Christmas list you were expecting, but it's mine. I know that some things are more plausible to obtain than others, but it's important to keep other things in mind. So while you're opening gifts on Christmas, be thankful for what you receive. Also consider doing a random act of kindness or volunteering your time to those who aren't as fortunate as you this season. All the world's problems aren't going to be solved in one day, but you could impact someone's life in just a day. Things won't change unless you're a part of that change.
