Stereotype of the Day

Going to the University of Maryland as an Asian is a whole different college experience that sets you apart from most. Here are a few things you can relate to or will go through as you navigate your way through your four years.

1. The Korean BBQ in the North Diner isn't really Korean BBQ.

2. The only thing that tastes most like home is the Stir Fry in the South Diner.

2.

3. When rice or noodles are involved in your meal, you have the urge to use chopsticks.

4. The ramen station in North Diner can only do so much to fulfill your ramen dreams.

5. You always take off your shoes when you enter your dorm.

6. You're not sure if you're supposed to take off your shoes when you visit your friend’s dorm.

7. Sometimes you just need that fake Chinese food fix from the Panda Express at Stamp.

8. You always find yourself at events where they give out free stuff.

9. You migrated from Ten Ren’s to Jumbo Jumbo.

10. You have a second stomach for bubble tea.

11. Everyone thinks your parents chose your major for you.

12. People are surprised when your major doesn’t align with the Holy Trinity (Doctor, Lawyer, Engineer).

13. You’re the only one in your class who understands that professor with the thick accent.

14. Asian sororities somehow find your Facebook profile, message you and try to recruit you.

15. You can get away with sleeping in class.

16. You lock eyes with another Asian and feel an instant connection.

17. Everyone thinks you get good grades.

18. You’re low-key salty that the school didn’t close for Lunar New Year.

19. You brought your rice cooker to school.

Being Asian is cool.
