We all know the famous quotes that each and every parent has used in their household. From the perspective of a child whose parents are the King and Queen of parental one-liners, I have decided to compile a list of some of my very favorites. Each of these have been used by parents everywhere for years!

1. "You can't always get what you want."

Usually sung in the fashion of the Rolling Stones.

2. "If you need an answer right now, then the answer is no."

This was a tough one for my sister and I to learn, but we ultimately figured it out.

3. "When I was young, we never had {insert 21st century item here}."

Shout out to Apple for always giving our parents something new to use this famous parent catch-phrase on.

4. "Whose house? Do I know their parents? What is their address?"

These are only the first three on a long list of questions asked by my parents when my sisters and I asked to go somewhere.

5. "If {insert friend's name here} jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?"

No, Mom, I wouldn't ever jump off a bridge.

6. Me: "Dad, I'm hungry." Him: "Nice to meet you, Hungry! I'm Dad."

I am not ashamed to say that this introduction was used at least three times a week throughout my childhood. I was always quite vocal about my hunger.

7. "Put on some lipstick, you never know if you will meet your future husband today."

Mom, if the greeter at Walmart becomes my future husband then we have bigger issues on our hands.

8. "Lie with the dogs, catch their fleas"

A bit gross, but it has proven to be exceptionally true.

9. "Your curfew is 11 p.m. because nothing good happens after midnight."

Nothing is open after midnight except the ER and Whataburger, and my parents obviously did not want me at either place.

10. "Work hard while you're young so you don't have to work hard when you're old."

As a college student, this one needs to be a daily reminder plastered on every wall I pass by.

11. "Anything worth doing, is worth doing right."

This applies to chores or even science fair projects.

12. "We have a kitchen full of food, you don't need to go out."

Somehow, I am never in the mood for the things we have in our kitchen.

13. "Because I said so!"

Self explanatory.

14. "I'm your mother/father. I am not your friend."

Such a classic.

15. "Life is not fair."

Perhaps the most accurate one-liner of all.

16. "This too shall pass."

Honestly, one of the most reassuring things a parent can say.

17. "Did you think this {insert item here} was going to pick itself up?"

For some reason, this always applies to shoes. That could just be me.

18. "I just want what's best for you."

This is so true and shows that you should truthfully appreciate all of your parent's crazy quotes and sayings because everything they say truly is because they love you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
