19 Things I've Learned Since 19

Being 19, you're stuck in between being a mature adult and a wild kid. You're still a teenager, but still expected to act like an adult. This is a time where big decisions must be made, such as what to do with the rest of your life. Life is a never ending roller coaster, and it's hard to always know how to act. Although I am no where done learning new things about this world and about life, here are 19 things I have learned throughout my 19 years being on this wondrous earth.

1. You can never know too much.

There’s always something to be learned, always. Be open to learning new things from others.

2. Judging others is not, and never will be, okay.

Let people live their lives, it has nothing to do with you. Don't exude bad energy.

3. Respect yourself.

Maintain your standards. If you don’t respect yourself, others won’t either.

4. Family is important.

They’ll be there for you when no one else is, and have been for your whole life.

5. Don’t be afraid to take risks.

Sometimes you just have to take a risk. You'll be surprised at what you can do.

6. Know when to walk away.

If it's not making you happier, smarter, or better, it's not worth your time and effort.

7. Always forgive.

Don't hold grudges. People are going to mess up and do you wrong throughout your life, but be the bigger person and forgive so that you can move on with your life.

8. Spread positive energy.

No one likes being around someone who sucks the life out of the room. Spread good vibes to those around you.

9. Don't forget your friends.

You need your friends. If you're at different colleges or live in different places, check in on them and don't lose touch.

10. Embrace everyone.

Some people are different than you are, and that's okay. Learn to accept those people because life would be boring if we were all the same.

11. It's a big world.

Travel and see all that you can. Don't stay in one place, because you will be missing out on some beautiful sights.

12. Save your money.

Get a job and save your money. You'll thank me later.

13. Popularity doesn't matter.

Especially in high school, many people think being popular is all that matters. Trust me when I say that it does not. Find your place and be happy.

14. Don't let others define you.

Know when can tell you who you are or who to be. You can be anything you want to be, don't let others tell you that you can't do something.

15. It's okay to fail.

No one is perfect, and we don't always succeed, but that's how you learn.

16. Love and be loved.

Fall in love, and let others fall in love with you. It may not work out a few times, but it's a beautiful thing and it will eventually.

17. Have fun.

Don't forget that you are still a teenager. Don't get too caught up in life that you forget to let loose sometimes.

18. Don't give up.

There is nothing you can't come back from. It may seem impossible at times, but life goes on.

19. Life is short.

All of the sudden you're 19 and wondering where the time went. So, do as much as you can do and make an impact so that in 19 more years you can look back with a smile.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
