19 Things Every College Girl NEEDS To Know By 19

Life teaches you more than anyone ever could.

You've successfully lived 6,935 days, 990 weeks and of course 19 years.

You have seen the good days, the bad days, even worse days and everything in between. No one can teach you more than going through the experiences yourself.

These are just a few things that I've learned over the last 19 years and here's to 19 more:

1. You are valuable.

Embrace who you are. You are beautiful and uniquely created in God’s image so believe that with everything inside of you and showcase your true beauty.

2. Don’t let anyone or anything hold you back from what you want to do.

You are your own person and you have dreams, aspirations and goals! You do not deserve to have anyone any circumstance hold you back from where you want to get to in life. DO NOT let a boy determine your future.

3. Your independence is something that is attractive and not hindering.

Let your independence define you and not hold you back. Don’t ever hide it or let anyone tell you that you need to get rid of it. You are a strong independent woman and no one can tell you different.

4. Have confidence.

Confidence is a beautiful thing and I can assure you, it is something that is the most attractive thing to people. Be confident in who you are and don’t ever shrink down to anyone

5. Live your life to the fullest.

You only get 1 life to live so live it to the best of your ability

6. You are loved.

Take a second and think about all the people that surround you in your life; they love you more than anything regardless if you feel it or not. And on the days when you don’t feel it at all, know that there is a God that loves you and you are worth the world to Him.

7. Tomorrow is never guaranteed.

If you’ve ever experienced loss you know that tomorrow is never guaranteed so hug your people tightly and never let them forget how much you love them

8. You won’t be liked by everyone.

Not everyone is going to like you and that’s okay. That is a fact but never change yourself because of it. Be yourself and keep the people close that love you for who you are

9. There’s something beautiful about being innocent and classy.

Innocence is hard to come by these days and classiness is something that is overlooked. These two things show beauty, strength and they’re both valuable. Remember that when it gets hard and the world is telling you different.

10. Don’t ever compromise your morals or values for a guy.

Know your morals and values and hold them at the highest place in your heart. Don’t EVER let a guy compromise them because those are the guys that are a waste of time and don’t deserve your heart.

11. Leonardo DiCaprio will always be hot.

Leo, you first caught my heart in Titanic, I fell in love with you during that movie and never looked back. If you’re reading, just know you’ll always have a special place in my heart.

12. You’ll always live after the night of experiencing FOMO.

Fomo is real but you will always see the light of day after that night. If you have to fight the “fear of missing out” in order to study for that extra hard test then it’s always worth missing a night out with the girls or that fraternity party to ensure some good grades in school that you’ll be proud of after you get.

13. Social media will fade away.

The likes and attention you get on social media will not be there forever but the people you surround yourself with will always be there when the likes disappear.

14. Shit happens.

High school is one of them but you got through it didn’t you?

15. Pizza will always be there for you.

This is good to know when you’re stuck studying through the night in the library on campus or when you need comfort food after a long day.

16. Anyone who broke your heart never deserved it in the first place.

Whether this is true for a boy, a friend or even a parent, God has something better in store for you.

17. Mom’s always right.

The advice she gives you whether it’s now or she had given it to you in the past; remember it and don’t take it for granted because she’s right.

18. Set your eyes on the future.

It’s good to look back and see all that God has done in the past but keep your eyes forward so you don’t miss out on all that He is going to do in your life!

19. You’ve made it to 19.

Give yourself a lot of grace because you’ve lived a pretty good amount of life. You’ve made it this far and there’s literally no turning back now. So, Cheers to the next 19 years of more experiences, fun times and good life. It is what you make of it!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
