In the spirit of the new school being built, here are a few things everyone who went to (or is going to) Frederick High School understands.

1. Those fake walls

We had them in almost every classroom, and even though the walls were dividing the classrooms, you could hear every word coming from the other room. And we all knew that one kid who tired to lean their chair back onto it and ended up pushing it (or falling out of their chair).

2. Knowing that our school goes hard core during spirit week

From all the dress up days (twin day), all the way down to the hallway decorating contest, it is a huge deal to FHS. It's something we take seriously!

3. And best of all, Senior Dress up day!

Being a senior is the best thing for 1 big reason other than graduation and prom, we had Halloween dress up day! Being able to strut around the school in your Halloween costume was the best thing since sliced bread! Everyone knew you were an official senior when you got to dress up as whatever you wanted to be with all of your friends.

4. Pep rally is hype

"WHO'S GONNA WIN THIS GAME TONIGHT?!" -Mr. Templeton. "FHS!" -Every Student in the Crowd. We all can vividly remember the excitement and unity every year during this event! With the whole week leading up to this, it was honestly almost better than homecoming itself. We have the best pep rally's in the county and everyone knows it; and even though we may not win every year in our football games, we still love and support our team for kicking butt and playing their hearts out! Also, who doesn't love watching the teachers dance and see the beautiful duct tape dresses that get made!

5. Always hating on the TJ patriots

Our rivals. We don't actually hate you guys, we just love the mad competition between the schools.

6. Our sports may not be #1, but we support them all no matter what

No matter what anyone says, we all know this is true. Every single athlete who has played at Frederick High has always given their 110 percent, and we all love and adore you for that! Coming from someone who is not athletic in anyway, I loved going to support every game I could! Even if I never talked to anyone on the team. Our student section, otherwise known as Sabre Nation, was always there cheering everyone on! Because, why not hang out with your friends at a game and cheer on your fellow cadets?

7. The way that it can be freezing in one classroom and a sauna in another down the hall

I feel like this one explains itself.

8. China Garden will always be the go to after school food

We all know that dollar fried rice! Whether you are just walking home or need a snack before practice, China Garden was always there for you.

9. And we can't forget about Rita's

Being able to get Rita's on the walk home from school on a hot day is amazing! And who doesn't love being so close during the free Rita's days?

10. Being the first high school in the county to graduate

We are the first to graduate, which means that we are the first to say we did it and completed high school!

11. Being able to write your name on the senior wall

Being able to literally leave our mark on the school is an awesome tradition at Frederick High!

12. Having Safe and Sane at an amusement park

From midnight to 5 a.m. we get to party nonstop at Adventure Park USA to celebrate graduation! Who doesn't love to ride around on those bumper boats, ride the roller coasters, and play laser tag at 2 a.m.?

13. Knowing that if you drop food on the ground, you probably should not trust the five-second rule

Unfortunately, even though our school may have a good janitors staff, nothing can stop those bugs! So, if I were you, I would steer clear of eating anything off the ground!

14. Being able to go downtown Frederick whenever you wanted

We all have planned that one day where it is beautiful outside and you have a day hanging out Downtown Frederick with your friends after school or practice/rehearsal! It's great being so close to baker park and the shops.

15. Having the middle school right next door

No one can say that the traffic due to the middle school being right next door is very fun. If you have to stay after school to make up something and end up having to deal with the middle school just letting out, it can become a worst nightmare. However, it could be a blessing in disguise, because I met some of the best people from that middle school that are still some of my best friends today! So, if you went to that middle school, then you know that you will automatically have friends in high school because they are just going right next door.

16. The A stairwell

Enough said!

17. We are FHS Strong

We all remember the moment that it all went down; however, we all also remember the moment we built ourselves back up from it! So many people were giving their hateful and stereotypical opinions of our beloved school, but instead of just accepting the hate, we fought back with love! We stood together as a whole and took a stand for what we believed in! I will never forget that day, that new spirit day, where we all became one family. We will always be FHS strong!

18. Unity is everything

We are 27 Sports. 1 Team. No matter who you were in this school, no one judged. Everyone hung out with each other. The band kids and the jocks; theatre kids and the academic team. No one judged you on who you were. We are a diverse school that didn't stick to the status quo.

19. The excitement and tragedy of the new school being built and the old one being knocked down

Lastly, as much as we rag on our own school and say countless times that we are ready for the new school, I'm not sure we all are really ready to let go. The new school is a much deserved and needed upgrade, and as much as we are excited to see it when it's finished, we are sad to see the old building go away. Especially the ones that graduated from there. It was our home away from home for four years, we all are going to miss it.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

Bucket List To Live In The Now

Find excitement in your life and start exploring wherever you are right here, right now.

mu bucket list

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

Great Value Colleges

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
