Living off campus can be a real struggle. Like, a serious struggle. Between not being able to be involved on campus and struggling with campus parking, having to leave 45 minutes before class starts just to save money really sucks sometimes. You keep telling yourself that you're saving money but sometimes you wonder if it's even worth it.
Here are 19 things only commuters understand.
1. You’re a weirdo for not living on campus.
2. Everyone thinks it’s insane that you live 30 minutes away and don’t live on campus.
3. They will pity you. “Don’t you hate that you’re missing out on the college experience?”
4. Sometimes you hate the on campus-ers. Do they know how easy they hate it?
5. It sucks not having a place to nap between classes or before work.
6. Professors don’t care if there was heavy traffic that day.
7. It’s hard to meet people.
8. You have to get up way too early.
9. The later classes are always full with the lazy people who live a 3 minutes’ walk to class while you have to leave 45 minutes before class starts.
10. Snow scares you because they won’t cancel class and you have to drive 30 minutes in dangerous terrain just to fail a Spanish quiz.
11. Three minutes makes all the difference. If you leave three minutes late, you’re screwed.
12.You have to take into account parking time and the walk from the farthest lot to the quad.
13. Campus parking is a bitch. I think this is a universal rule Universities must follow.
14. Your day is longer than everyone else’s.
15. You spend way too much money on gas.
16. Between work and school, you’re never home.
17. You don’t have time to join any time-consuming clubs or organizations because you can’t make it to the dorm classroom for a meeting at 9 o’clock at night.
18. Between that and having a job, you feel left out of student activities.
19. In another (richer) life you’ll just live on campus to save all the trouble.
