19 Things I Am Thankful To My Parents For At The Age Of 19

Sometimes you just have to stop and think about all the things your parents have done and still do for you and just be thankful.

19 Things I Am Thankful To My Parents For At The Age Of 19
John Martin

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found myself forgetting to thank my parents for everything they do for me. They’ve stood by me for 19 years, teaching me and watching me grow. Now, I’m in college and they aren’t there every day. Pretty soon, I’ll be on my own completely, but I know they’ll always be there if I need them.

So here’s a list of things I would like to say “thank you” to my parents for:

1.Thank you for putting up with me when I’m not so easy to put up with.

I know I'm difficult to put up with, but I know you'll always love me regardless.

2.Thank you for always providing everything I need and putting me first.

3.Thank you for teaching me to stand up for myself.

You've taught me to be strong and independent and given me the right amount of crazy to do it.

4.Thank you for allowing me to make my own decisions but always ready to step in if I need it.

That's what has made me so independent.

5.Thank you for raising me in church and allowing me to make decisions about my faith.

6.Thank you for teaching me to have a sense of humor.

If there's one thing we do a lot of in our house, it's laugh.

7.Thank you for giving me two brothers, who I love unconditionally.

8.Thank you for usually being right, even though I don’t like to admit it.

9.Thank you for laughing when I mess up.

It has kept me from being too sensitive about everything.

10.Thank you for allowing me to choose the activities I’m involved in.

You knew I wasn't going to be an athlete and you never pushed me to try to be one.

11.Thank you for buying me all those things I know I didn’t need.

12.Thank you for pushing me to reach my goals.

Even though I complain about how I got in trouble in high school for not making an A, it has really paid off.

13.Thank you for the opportunity to attend the college of my choice.

14.Thank you for the 19 years of laughter and memories.

15.Thank you for being understanding and easy to talk to.

I know I can come to you for anything.

16.Thank you for being a positive influence for me.

I've learned a lot about life and hard work just from watching you.

17.Thank you for never giving up.

18.Thank you for being so proud of me.

But most importantly…

19.Thank you for loving me unconditionally.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
