In just two weeks I will be turning 19. Nestled between Abraham Lincoln's birthday and Valentine's Day, February 13 has always been my favorite day of the year. This year, however, just doesn't feel the same.
1. 19 just sounds so old.
When I was 5, I thought that anyone over 11 was old, so 19 must've seemed elderly.
2. It means I'm one step closer to being an adult.
Gulp.
3. My teenaged years are almost behind me.
But how, I feel like I turned 13 yesterday?
4. More years means more responsibilities.
I have to pay bills/get a job/fend for myself?
5. I'm scared of letting go of my youth.
The older I become the more distanced I am from my childhood memories.
6. The real world is looming closer and closer.
Having to get a job, leave the safety of the college bubble, and being a real adult is too scary for me to handle.
7. I've realized that life goes by too quickly.
I remember graduating elementary school like it was yesterday and now I'm halfway done with my first year of college... Childhood come back.
8. I'm awkwardly in between childhood and adulthood.
Which category do I belong in?
9. I've practically lived in two decades.
That's almost a quarter of a century.
10. I'll have to make more life-changing decisions.
I'm really not ready to choose my life path right now.
11. It's my first birthday away from my family.
No more yearly traditions, hugs, or snuggles from my puppy to celebrate my special day.
12. In my mind, I'm still a child.
Please don't tell me that I can't order off of the kids' menu.
13. 19 is sort of a meaningless birthday.
At 16 I got my permit, at 17 I passed my driving test, and at 18 I got my full license. At 19 nothing changes but the number.
14. It's hard to tell people its your birthday without sounding self-centered.
I'm sorry in advance.
15. All of the new celebrities are younger than me.
Some were born in the 21st century.
16. Soon it'll no longer be age-appropriate for me to read Young Adult books.
Guess I have to read as many as possible before I turn 20.
17. The excuse that I'm just a little girl won't really work anymore.
But I'm wearing pigtails and sparkles and I'm a 5-year-old at heart!
