Being 19 is a weird age to be. So close to being out of your teenage years, but still close enough to being an adult. Being 19 means that nothing fun happens in this year, besides you start to find yourself while being 19. We all live such a beautiful and crazy life, and being 19 just helps you realize what a crazy and beautiful life we all live. Things will for sure change in this year, and it could be for the better or for the worse. Most times its for the better because you start to realize how people can actually treat you. This is the year when you focus on YOU. Here are 19 things that I have realized at the age 19.

1. Smile at strangers

You never know what someone is going through, and I promise by smiling at them you will make their day. If you start to smile at strangers, soon strangers will smile at you and make you feel god.

2. Always sing in the car or shower

Singing is proven to make you feel happier in any situation. Singing in the car is a must because you can feel the wind on your face while you sing with all windows open. Singing in the car is the best when you are with best friends because you are making endless memories. Singing in the shower is just a must after a long hard day, it makes you feel so refreshed and happy.

3. Hug a lot

Hugs are so special because it's like someone is putting pieces back in their original spots. Hugs make people feel loved and who doesn't want to feel loved? It's also a good way to show someone how you care about them especially if they are upset.

4. Not everyone is going to like you

And honestly that's okay. You don't need everyone to like you, as long as a few people do then you'll be just fine.

5. Deep conversations are special

I know everyone hates opening up to people, but sometimes you need a good deep conversation about life at 2am when you can't sleep.

6. Make some mistake

You learn from your best mistakes. You are the best judgement on a situation, so trust your gut not other people's. So what if you made a mistake? Live and learn right?

7. Don't let others walk over you

Yes helping out every now and then is okay, but helping out every time someone needs help is a little much. Letting others walk on you once means that they can do it all over again because they know your weaknesses.

8. Pick a favorite flower

Having a favorite flower says a lot about you. It shows guys what kind of girl you are. Don't be afraid to buy yourself flowers too. Treat yourself.

9. Quality over quantity

This applies to friends, clothes and even family. In life you want the best in any situation, not the most of one thing. Good friends are hard to find so keep the few that make you happy.

10. Getting attached is okay

This shows you are caring person. Timing just wasn't right for you sweetheart, but don't give that one guy up.

11. It's okay to cry

Crying is healthy for you. Crying doesn't mean you are weak, it just means you have been strong for too long.

12. Mom was right

In nine out of ten times, your mom is right. Whether you want to admit it or not, she was right. She was right about all those ugly outfits, the boys who you let walk over you, and the extra makeup wasn't a must.

13. Cherish your memories

Saving memories can help you in the long run. It will give you something to laugh about in 20 years, and some day you can tell your children how cool you used to be.

14. You will never forget your first relationship

No matter how embarrassing the relationship was, you will always remember it and sometimes you will remember it at random times.

15. Love hard

Love only comes around once or twice in life, so if you love something. Love it hard and don't let go of it.

16. Don't apologize for how you feel

NEVER apologize for having feelings. They are yours and only yours. If you want to love someone, then do it.

17. Don't run from your problems

Running from problems will make things worse. Tackle the problem head on and beat the problem before it beats you.

18. Happiness isn't just smiles

Happiness can be friends, puppies, babies, coffee on a cold morning. Happiness can be whatever you want it to be.

19. Love yourself

Loving yourself is huge when you transitioning into being a real adult. Loving yourself will help you in later years.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
