19 Life Lessons that Gilmore Girls Taught Us

I went on a Netflix binge and just finished the final episode of Gilmore Girls. I would be lying if I said I didn't cry. The show tracks the life of a single mother (Lauren Graham) and her daughter (Alexis Bledel) following their ups/downs, failures/successes in a small town filled with crazy (but the most loving) people you will ever meet. I speak for myself, and on behalf of many others who have watched this show, when I say that you fall in love with the relationship between Lorelai and Rory. They reminded me of a relationship much similar to my mom and I. You fall in love with Luke, Christopher, Lorleai's Parents, Sookie, Lane, Paris, Dean, Jess, Logan, Michel, Miss Patty, Babette, the townspeople, and even strange Kirk. The list goes on. You become a coffee fanatic and trained yourself to drink your coffee black because Lorleai does. After five seasons down...you feel like you know them. And THAT is what makes it so hard saying goodbye. So as a tribute, I have thought of 19 life lessons that Gilmore Girls taught me us.

You can't help who you love.

"I'm in love with him. Despite all the bad hes done, I can't help it. I'm in love with him."

-Rory Gilmore

Coffee makes the world go round.

"I can't stop drinking Coffee. If I stop drinking the coffee, I stop doing the standing and the walking and the words-putting-into-sentence doing."

-Lorleai Gilmore

Food can fix all problems.

"We need burgers, fries, onion rings, and anything else you can think of."

-Lorelai Gilmore

Somethings are just never mean't to be, no matter how much we wish they were.

"You're the man I want to want."

-Lorelai Gilmore

Relationships are hard.

"I'm afraid once your heart is involved it all comes out in moron."

-Lorelai Gilmore

Having brains is more important than looks.

"Who cares if I'm pretty if I fail my finals."

-Rory Gilmore

Exercise is overrated.

"I want to get a healthy glow of someone who goes consistently to the gym without actually having to go of course."

-Kirk Gleason

Sometimes you just need your Mom.

"I cannot do this alone, I need my mommy and I don't care who knows it."

-Rory Gilmore

The more wine, the merrier.

"Only prostitutes have two glasses of wine at lunch."

-Richard Gilmore

....

"Well then buy my a boa and drive me to Reno because I am open for business."

-Emily Gilmore

Relax.

"Saturday's the day of pre-rest, see? Then by the time you get to Sunday, You're rested enough...to enjoy your rest."

-Lorelai Gilmore

Life is short.

"Life's short, talk fast."

-Lorelai Gilmore

Speak up.

"You're muttering under your breath. Years of experience have taught me that when you do that, it's usually about me."

-Emily Gilmore

Spend every day as if it was your last.

"One of those moments that everything is so perfect and so wonderful that you almost feel sad because nothing can ever be this good again."

-Rory Gilmore

Cherish friendships.

"It is my responsibility as your best friend to make sure you do exciting things even when you don't want to."

-Gilmore Girl

Find common interests with others.

"I don't like it when people talk to me when I'm watching TV either."

-Lorleai Gilmore

The unknown is scary and change can be hard.

"Everything's just ending. It's like I'm standing on this cliff, looking out into this huge foggy abyss. In my whole life there's never been an abyss. I've always known exactly what is in front of me. I've always known exactly where I'm going. An now, I don't know what's out there."

-Rory Gilmore

Be upfront.

"I'm going to go make out in the coat room, don't eat my chicken."

-Lorelai Gilmore

Surround yourself with people who care.

"I just like to see you happy."

-Luke Danes

Be flexible.

"I can be flexible. As long as everything is exactly the way I want it, I'm totally flexible."

-Lorelai Gilmore

And I'll end on one of my favorite quotes:

"As she guided me through these incredible eighteen years, I don't know if she ever realized the person I most wanted to be was her. Thank you mom. You are my guide post for everything."

-Rory Gilmore

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

Her sister was a member, her mom was a member, all of her aunts were members, and her grandma was a member. She has been waiting her whole life to wear these letters and cried hysterically on bid day. Although she can act entitled at times, you can bet she is one of the most enthusiastic sisters.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer. The winter has been lagging, the days are short and dark, and no one is quite themselves due to lack of energy and sunlight. Let's face it: life is ten times better in the summertime.
