I love "Calvin and Hobbes." From a little girl marking up the pages to her dad's "Calvin and Hobbes" comic book to a growing woman needing a little laughter in life, my favorite six-year-old and his pet tiger have always been there to cheer me up and remind me of the important things in life.
For "Calvin and Hobbes" teaches us more about life than we would imagine for a comic strip focusing on a hyperactive, imaginative six year old boy. As finals approach us, let the truths that Calvin discovers make your heart smile and your day shine a bit brighter.
I present to you, 18 ways "Calvin and Hobbes" encourages us during finals week
1. Adulthood is hard.
I repeat, adulthood is hard. But perhaps the challenges of growing up make life worth the living.
2. It requires imagination.
Life seems more exciting when we narrate our own stories, doesn't it? Now if we could only add soundtracks to our lives.
3. And perseverance.
Who says building character can't be fun?
4. Plus a bit of inspiration.
Did I say this inspiration came solely from pure motives?
5. Mornings challenge the population in inhuman ways.
They say follow your heart. What if your heart tells you to stay in bed all day?
6. As do all-nighters.
I'm pretty sure sleep is a necessity for life. Things done after two in the morning scare me.
7. And sometimes we just want to take the easy way out.
The problem with being muggles.
8. For school doesn't really agree with us.
Just like eating healthy doesn't look as appetizing as engulfing junk food, working hard as school doesn't look as fun as sleeping in and slacking off is just the same. But a diet of Twinkies will result in a short life.
9. Grades especially don't agree with us.
If only the world revolved around us. (sarcasm)
10. At least we're doing better than the government.
I wouldn't recommend gauging your life success by comparing yourself to the government, though.
11. But things will change.
The little things, daily work and character building do pay off eventually.
12. So seize the day.
Let's just take life one day at a time and live.
13. Dance in the rain.
The rain of assignments, tests and last minute projects can either drench us with complaining weariness or lead us to dance in the rain.
14. Look at the stars.
This moment won't last forever, but certain things will.
15. Because this gives us the big picture.
In the big picture, you won't remember the stress of studying, you will remember the empowerment of doing something with your life.
16. Be sure and find someone to make life fun.
Life is too good to do it alone.
17. For friends make life less scary.
They are there to tell you that things will be OK.
18. And above all, enjoy the journey.
"We're so busy watching out for what's just ahead of us that we don't take the time to enjoy where we are."
Finals speed towards us, but with these 18 reminders from "Calvin and Hobbes", life doesn't seem so scary after all.
